Cadillac Area Trail Report – 01/22

UPDATE: Got a call this afternoon from our President, Don Wing after he had spent the day grooming Trail 37 S to Trail 637 out of Boon. He reported that Trail 637 is better than fair but not quite good. Trail 37 S is fair particularly south of M55 where there seems to be less snow. He also reported regardless of where he went, he didn’t see any dirt on the trails. Groomer 2 out of Hoxeyville reports the trails are in good condition but warns of the underlying ice base throughout the system. This groomer also commented on the lack of dirt on the trails.

Here’s the latest report from Al Green, our Trail Coordinator: ‘Grooming of the Cadillac trails started back up yesterday with mixed results. Trail conditions range from fair to good. There is some ridable snow on most trails but it is very thin in the Cadillac West business district, the White Pine trail, and in all of the heavy wooded areas.

The farther north you go (Boon to Mesick) there seems to be more snow. As always, the wide open forest roads have the best riding conditions. There is a LOT of ice under the little bit of snow so please slow down. The groomers are going to keep running until they start pulling up dirt.’

Snow accumulation: 4 to 6 inches

REMEMBER there are fewer signs in the woods this winter so when you finally do get a chance to ride, take your time and enjoy the ride. The need for speed may be costly to you and to others. Assume every trail is a winding trail and be ready for the next curve.

A reminder to those who enjoy riding the White Pine Trail, State Park officials have asked snowmobilers to ‘refrain from operating snowmobiles when less than four inches of snow cover the trail.’

Ranch Rudolph – 1/22

Negative 2 degress without the wind chill today-it’s freezing out. Supposed to get up to the teens tomorrow. We’ve seen some snow everyday. Nothing significant, but probably between 1/2 inch to an inch every day. About 3 inches on the ground right now.

Everything is white and covered with an icy/hard packed base. Would love to get some fresh snow to add to the mix, and it sounds like we will, but not all at once, just little by little. Some are out riding today and say things are in decent shape.

Groomers Running: No – as of now groomers plan to head out tomorrow

Base: Nothing significant

Trail Condition: Poor-Fair in Spots

Snowfall in Past 24 hours: 1 inch

Grand Traverse Snowmobile Club – 01/18

The groomers are still parked until we get more snow, we still need about another 4 inches before it would do any good to groom. The trails are somewhat rideable but very icy, please use caution. Right now it looks like we won’t be grooming until next week but then that depends on the snow.
