NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association – 1/5

Jan. 5, 2020 8:30am Updates below Green
UPDATE: We went out last night but it was tough grooming! The trails are hard, bumpy and icy. The trail coming out of town past the logging museum looks like an EKG. One may say they did not groom. We did groom, but after a several sleds pass the trails are bumpy again. Please don’t get us wrong there are a few sections here and there that are good, however for the most part they are fair at best. It is painful to say but truthful. There has been a lot of traffic over the weekend. We need snow and a nice Northern wind to freeze and harden things back up. It does not take long with the amount of traffic to take a toll on them. The forecast is to pick up a few inches of snow today, but we need more than a few inches to return them to ideal riding conditions. We Take Pride in Your Ride!!

Trail #9/2/473 (Fair) (South of Newberry) There is a small water hole South of Rexton. The trail is fair at best.
Trail #45 (Fair at Best) Groomed to the swamp last night and turned around. There is water about 15 feet wide at that spot. Hopefully it will freeze over with the colder temperatures over the next few days and fresh snow to fall on Sunday. We will groom to the swamp E of the 500. Sleds have been crossing through to the Falls, however CAUTION is still urged!
2 miles in off of M123 there is a water hole and a SIGN to slow down or stop before going across.

After you cross M-123 to the 500 there is another water spot about 1 mile in. You have to cross the soft spot to get to the Falls. CAUTION!!

Trail #9 (Fair at Best) North Groomed all the way to the Holland Lake staging area last night.

Paradise Area Trail Report – 01/05

January 5, 2020

29 degrees this morning and cloudy. We picked up just a heavy dusting of snow last night. FYI, we only have a foot-foot and a half on the ground now. Here`s what been going on…..

Last Friday Me and Groomer Dave and his son Wyatt went out and did a bunch of signing all south of town. Took us most of the day and it looks a lot better now. Groomer Mike ran the Pine Stump trail #8 and actually called it pretty good. It took him 15 hrs. to do cause of all the brushing he had. He did get some help from part time local Ed Sabo and his buddy Chris Dice. THANKS GUYS!!!! Mike did mention to us how much he appreciated the help!!!!!

Yesterday, Groomers Mike, Dave, Kevin and myself took 2 machines, one with a drag, and headed south of town. We got the town trail groomed up and then headed past the river mouth, skipping the swamp ( more on that later ), and groomed the power line and into the Federal Forest section and then the trail towards the Soo. There is a water hole on the power line section you have to watch out for but you can get around it. In the Federal Forest section there is a water hole thats hard to get around but it is "only" about a foot deep. After crossing Lakeshore Dr. we ran into a lot of trees down but got them all cleared….a hell of a lot of work but we got `er done!

As far as the swamp south of town, we simply cannot get in there till we get some snow. I can only imagine what that looks like cause we ran across the unexpected water on the aforementioned trails. We CANNOT groom down the side of M-123 for many reasons (legal) so don`t start hammering me on why we don`t do this!!!!! The Falls trail #45 is still closed due to the water and lack of snow. You can ride the Point trails #452 and #453 but they haven`t been groomed and a section is closed due to the bridge out. There is some water on these trails you have to watch out for too.

So, basically, what I`m reporting is the only decent trail to ride right now is the Stump trail. The weather is looking like it will change a bit but I don`t see anything to get really excited about yet. I guess just wait an see.

Thats it fer today. LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Groomer Chris ..
