MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA – 02/09
TRAIL REPORT – Tuesday 02/09/2021 BITTER COLD GROOMING!
Still No new snow with bitter cold temps and very good trail grooming results. Trails are in overall Very Good Riding conditions across a majority of our trail system if you can stand the cold. We had two machine issues yesterday one with the Bully taking Operators Chuck and Mike on a wild ride locking a track with an instant left turn along a ridge. Fortunately the machine is working again and no injuries or damage. The other is our club owned John Deere 7130 currently down for 24 hours with a transmission cooling issue. Trail 419 grooming will resume as soon as it is back up and running. There is a logging issue on Trail 8 (7) miles North of Shingleton so ride with caution. Please respect residential property owners and STAY ON THE TRAIL, No Snowmobile Signs mean just that. Our Team of volunteer Groomer Operators will continue to do their best to keep trails flat so; Get out and ENJOY the Trails Ride Safe and Stay Tuned for updates!

Snow fall totals have gone up for the upcoming storm this Thursday. Now we are looking at 6″-10″ of snow. It may be wet and heavy, but we will welcome it to add to the trail. Keep praying and doing your snow dance. Hope we get it.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> It will be warmer today with highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s. Light snow is possible south of an Iron Mountain to Escanaba line but any accumulation will be very light. GWINN AREA UPDATE via Forsyth Snowmobile and ATV Club >> Trail update for Gwinn area, Central Upper Peninsula. Our town is in need of snow, took a ride East over towards Alger County and they definitely have more snow over that way. Buckhorn area was smooth all the way down south and across over to Big Springs area. Big Springs area north had some small rocks on the trail and once we got by the Jack Pine Trails were good again. Came through shingleton and quite the snow storm at 6:00 on Saturday evening. Unfortunately the snow didn't come to our town. Additional snowfall of up to an inch in the west and 1 to 3 inches in the east can be expected. WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.
Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Then a transition over to lake effect snow over the west to northwest wind snowbelts. 3 to 7 inches of snowfall over the east tonight into Sunday morning.

A change over to lake effect snow is expected in the NW wind snow belts Saturday afternoon, lingering into Sunday.
