Now we are looking at 6″-10″ of snow. It may be wet and heavy, but we will welcome it to add to the trail. Keep praying and doing your snow dance. A clipper will spread a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain across the area this morning, changing to all rain from west to east as temperatures climb above freezing in the afternoon, reaching as high as the mid 50s in the west. A cold front then drops across the U.P. and brings another round of mixed precip tonight, changing to all snow towards Sunday morning. Generally expect minimal snow amounts across most of the U.P., but some spots in the Keweenaw and the east could pick up 1-3” through Sunday morning. Alger SORVA pulled a day shift assist and smashed down our problem areas with the Bison today, but that didn’t stop us from getting into a bind with too much snow! The tunnel under 41 had a 3’ (settled height) drift down the entire length and it was too much to push through. We are close to the roof of the machine during normal operas we scrape it down close to the bottom. One of our operators threw his personal track loader on a trailer and came to the rescue. Between the track loader and the Deere, we were able to clear the tunnel out and get back to grooming. Still No new snow with bitter cold temps and very good trail grooming results. Trails are in overall Very Good Riding conditions across a majority of our trail system if you can stand the cold. We had two machine issues yesterday one with the Bully taking Operators Chuck and Mike on a wild ride locking a track with an instant left turn along a ridge. Fortunately the machine is working again and no injuries or damage. The other is our club owned John Deere 7130 currently down for 24 hours with a transmission cooling issue. Trail 419 grooming will resume as soon as it is back up and running. There is a logging issue on Trail 8 (7) miles North of Shingleton so ride with caution. Please respect residential property owners and STAY ON THE TRAIL, No Snowmobile Signs mean just that.
