Paradise Area Trail Report – 01/04

January 4, 2022

22 degrees this morning and cloudy. No new snow last night but the weather guessers are calling for "some storm" coming in tonight and tomorrow. I`ve heard from 1 inch to around 8……we`ll see. Got more good than bad news today so here we go……..

I ran the Falls trail #45 yesterday and opened up the gates!! It turned out pretty good except for a few wet spots. When you see a "wet area" sign, pay attention. There are a couple of small water holes open but they are easy to get around if you are paying attention and not blasting down the trail. If we get this "storm" and the weather stays cold they should freeze up in a couple of days.

Groomer Dave M. went into the swamp south of town yesterday and called it not good. He broke thru a couple holes that are deep enough to swallow a sled. He said people are going around the gates and riding in there. Now that he has broken open the holes this is a VERY BAD idea. Don`t do it!!!! We will NOT come in and help stupid! We`ll go back in there in a couple days and see what we can do. If we get this snow there are talking about that will help. Dave is taking off this morning and going south of the river mouth to groom up the rest of the trail. If you are coming into town from the south you can run the UNPLOWED portion of M-123 into town.

We plan on runnin the Point trails #452 and #453 tomorrow. The Pine Stump trail #8 is good to go.

So, thats what I got. Not quite ready to totally drop the green flag but if we get this snow "they" are talking about I`ll do it. Keep checking back, I`ll keep ya`ll informed.

LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Groomer Chris

TROUT LAKE - EASTERN U.P. UPDATE via The Rail House-Trout Lake MI >> Welp... we had to give it a shot but only made it a few miles before we turned around and headed back in. The wind makes it hard to tell exactly how much snow we have gotten in the last 24hrs but its pretty significant. Roads are NOT passable. Please don't try to go out until the county trucks are able to do a pass or 2. If you are familiar with our area, this pic was taken on Huckleberry road on the South side of the lake. #troutlake #newberry #snowphotosWelp... we had to give it a shot but only made it a few miles before we turned around and headed back in. Some pic’s of today’s run. Cold and clear today with very little traffic. They say it’s the calm before the storm I guess and I hope so.

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports….

Good news! We have received anywhere from 8-10 inches of fresh snow so far the first 3 days of January and have at least 8 additional inches in the forecast for tomorrow into Wednesday! This additional snowfall is greatly needed to help with overall trail conditions!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western UP Trail Reports >> 29 December 2025
So far I'm showing 9 inches at 8:00am and still snowing and they are still calling for another 3-7 by this evening. As you can see the boys were out all night trying to get ahead of all this snow. If you want to know who's been out grooming get the #groomertracker app on your phone today. It's a cheap way to be informed at $10 per club and $5 of it goes directly to that club.
