A huge Thank You to all of the volunteers that have been working on clearing our trails for tomorrow’s opener. If you are planning on coming up to ride anytime soon be aware that riding may be more challenging than just “early season riding”. It would be great if you would come prepared to participate in the clean up. Some of the help can be as easy as shaking bent branches to release the tension and snow that covers them. Large trees have been reported on trails throughout the area. Chainsaws will be needed. Any help would be greatly appreciated by all clubs.

Took a spin last night on trail 3
There’s a great start to the opener however the heavy wet snowstorm filled the trails with trees and bent over brush
The Superior snowmobile club started cleaning things up but are dealing with a small crew and it’s overwhelming
If you have been dying to ride tomorrow I think with over 2 feet on the trails you could have a opener to remember but bring a saw and help the club clean this mess up
If enough people volunteer it wouldn’t take much
The pic I’m sharing is looking south on trail 3 a couple miles north of Twin Lakes
We made it to the Mosquito Inn last night but only 1/3rd of the ride looked like this pic

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club >> We continue to work our way through two remaining trails, Trail 133 from Gay to Lac La Belle and Trail 151 into Eagle River. We’ve had the assistance of many volunteers, shout out to everyone that’s come up and helped! The DNR has been assisting as well, huge thanks to them! The Portage Lake Lift Bridge is not open for crossing, but things are looking favorable. Stay tuned for more updates soon! #keweenaw #snowphotos
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> The UP will experience some impactful weather to round out the work week. Tonight, a Wind Advisory is in effect for the Keweenaw Peninsula for 45+ mph W to NW winds. Then Wednesday night through Friday morning will bring gusty winds and a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, and/or snow becoming widespread accumulating snow (with the highest chances of multiple inches of snowfall over the north half).

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Back to back events are expected this week. Expect strong winds this afternoon and tonight, then strong winds, falling temperatures, and snowfall on Thursday and Thursday night. The strong winds for both events night may result in power outages and lakeshore flooding/erosion and/or weakening lake ice. Things are looking real good so far this year. The trails that have been groomed are staying flat and are in very good shape. Hopefully this week all the clubs can wrap up getting the rest of our trail system opened up.
