Newberry Trail Report – VisitNewberry.com – 01/27

January 27, 2012 8:00 A.M.

Trails are in fair to good condition with a 3 to 8" base. There is ice on the trail after the warm up this week. BE CAREFUL.

Trail #9 to Pine Stump Jct/Holland Lake staging area is in good condition.

Groomer Lou & Wally reported Trail #45 to the Co Rd 500 is in good condition til Co. Rd. 500 where the trail turns Icy with some snow on top.

Trail #2/9 to Trout Lake and Eppoufette is in good condition over all, with a 4 to 5" base. We have got to the power lines at H-40, we will attempt to get through to Trout Lake as soon as the swamp freezes along the railroad.

Be careful on the corners as they may be icy.

There is logging on Trail #45 North of Skyline Dr. for 4 to 5 miles.

Logging on Trail #498 North of Co. Rd. 455, be careful in these areas, as the trail may be plowed.

It has come to my attention that there is no fuel symbol on the snowmobile trail map for the North Store. The North Store is located at Wolf Inn Jct. They are open from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M.

We need more snow! And cold weather.

TASA is in need of a snowmobile for checking trail conditions, and get to broke down groomers out on the trail. We would prefer a 2 up. Please contact us at sledding@tasatrails.com

The cerfew for the Village of Newberry is 11:00 P.M. until 7:00 A.M.

FYI: There will not be gas at Rainbow Lodge this year as they are closing for the winter. There is a gas pump logo on the trail map, but they will be CLOSED. The map is new for this year, and I recieved the information about Rainbow Lodge after the maps went to the printer.

Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 01/27

About an inch of snow overnight, but temps right around 30.

The groomers have been out on some of the trails and have found water. The trails going west of the Soo to Brimley, Raco and towards Paradise are in fair to good shape, only a few wet spots nothing major. The trails going south to Kinross and then up to Raco are another story, lots of water and very low snow. We strarted up these trails and we were breaking the ice and making a mess so we turned around. Trails vary from Poor to good depending on which route you take.
Trail #47 west of Raco to Strongs that is maintained by the Chippewa Snow Chasers is not being groomed right now do to a loss of land control, and is CLOSED from Flat Foot Rd to Salt Point Rd. They are working franticly on a reroute to go around.

Join us on Facebook also.

We will be taking over he 38 miles of trails groomed by Kinross Charter Township last season.

Sault Ste. Marie City Trail, Trails #497, #449, parts of #8 & #49 –

City curfew is from 1am – 6 am. Remember most City streets are open to traffic, 20 mph, stop at all intersections, and ride the right hand side of street not on side walks. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines.

Sault Ste. Marie to Kinross, Trail #49 –

Base 3-6 inches – Trail is in Poor to Fair Condition. When the trail is running along roads make sure you go with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road. Lots of Water.

Kinross loop and south to Pickford, parts of Trail #49, #494, #472

Base 2-5 inches – Trail is in Fair to Good Condition.

Kinross to Raco, Trail # #480 & #472

Base 2-5 inches – Trail is in Poor to Fair Condition. There is enough snow to ride without ruining equipment. There is still a couple of spots that need more snow to fill in bumps East of the Spile Dam bridges.

The Downtown Trail has not been groomed yet, but it is marked. The city will not set up the barrels until we have enough snow. They are talking about doing it next week.
