Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 03/27

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 03/27

Hi all!
Ok, this time I think it’s safe to say that we really are officially done grooming for the season. If you choose to ride, please be mindful of water holes that could open at any time and rapidly deteriorating conditions.
While SxSs, 4 wheelers and other wheeled vehicles should not be on designated snowmobile only trails, we are seeing lots of them out there so please be mindful of the ruts that they may leave behind. All we can do is hope the law enforcement does their part when they catch up with them. Trail 8 is a dual use trail so those under 65” wide are ok there and I would expect to see more and more out there enjoying the spring weather.
We do have a few inches of snow in the forecast this week but it will be short lived and the warm temps and sunshine will melt it quickly.
I would love to see your pics of your rides in our area! Unfortunately, I cannot open the comments for them because the spammers and hackers have no life and will jump on with their garbage as soon as I do. I don’t want any of you to be exposed so I have to keep it locked up. Please feel free to send them via messenger. I want to put together an end of season video to share to the page. I’ll probably do that this weekend so please send them throughout the week. I already received some so thank you very much to those that have sent them!
We thank you ALL for your words of encouragement, support, donations of time and or money, membership dues, and most importantly, your support of the local businesses that support us!
We made the most of a less than ideal season and we can’t wait to do it all again for you next season!
Stay tuned for some fun events and fundraisers throughout the year. We will be out all year long, brushing, signing, cleaning up trash, working with landowners and the DNR on new and existing trails, and performing maintenance on our machines so we’ll be ready to rock when the snow hits again next season. We hope you have a wonderful “off” season!

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Another quickly-moving Clipper will bring a round of widespread, light snow beginning this evening, followed by lingering lake effect snow across the NW wind snow belts for Tuesday. Totals of an inch or less are expected for most of the UP, but where lake effect snow occurs, up to 2-5in of snow is possible tonight through Tuesday evening. Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Lake effect snow continues today, stops, then resumes in intensity overnight into Tuesday, January 26th and 27th, 2026.
Discussion
Our west winds kick up to the 30-40 mph range later tonight. Prior to that happening, a northwest wind will batter some lake effect areas with an additional 1-3" this afternoon, with pockets of 4"+ possible. As we move into Tuesday, a widespread blanket of 2-5", with pockets of 4-8" will overtake the Lake Michigan shoreline, eastern UP, and Keweenaw Peninsula. Temperature difference between water and air, plus adequate lift will fuel lake effect all the way through Wednesday morning. Additionally, we have a clipper moving through on Tuesday that will bring isolated pockets of 1-3" to the east side. Most locations should still be beneath an inch, however, too many variables are in play to not mention it.
Travel will be impacted along and west of US-131, with minor travel impacts all the way over to the US-127 corridor (I-75 north of Grayling). The clipper will be swinging through with the initial push of gusty winds after midnight tonight through 10 am Tuesday morning. Again, this will be for totals starting at noon today, and lasting through 8 am EST Wednesday, with most of the snow falling throughout the entire day Tuesday. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyLake effect snow continues today, stops, then resumes in intensity overnight into Tuesday, January 26th and 27th, 2026.

9 o'clock
Second stop sign out, 10.3 tonight
I can tell you there are nights now and then I'd like to go out back there and have a discussion with our little drag about what we're supposed to be doing with a Ball Pean hammer, thank your Ribbons for that.
So far, very little wear and tear, get to focus on improving, not repairing, and the drag and I are now getting along, keep you posted.
Oh, we're at 100% for getting outta the way so far! 🥰 Thank You!
11:04pm. In and outta North Store Wolf Inn, took the time to cut a limb up, on the exit end, and a leaning tree at the exit on I75 there crossing back to the Windy Corners intersection that have been bugging us awhile. That trail Report is I love when it turns out like it did, and we can do that for them. 😊
Turned right towards Holland Lake, this section seems to be where my phone jams up, it is after 11 on a Monday , as I said earlier, 9 was pretty nice when we arrived, even better when we leave, I'm just going to make tracks for a hunk of time now, turn up the radio, become one with Tucker, don't fret 😉
Meant to tell you, snowing pretty good now and winds have kicked up, drifting, getting interesting. #newberry #snowphotos

In and outta Windy Corners, I've done better, not the snows fault, kept loosing my prime, most, very nice, its a personal goal thing.
