Paradise Area Trail Report – 01/19

1/19/24

5 degrees this morning and cloudy. No new snow last night but we are expecting some today, we sure could use it. Here`s what went on yesterday…..

Groomers Mike C. and Patrick (not rookie anymore) took just a machine and went into the swamp south of town. They made it thru but it is still ugly. It might take a couple more trips thru to get it safe. They noticed some sled tracks going around the gates. This is a VERY BAD idea. Don`t do it just cause you see tracks. If you get stuck in there we will not come and help!

I took a machine with a drag and hit the South trail section south of the river mouth. It turned out pretty good. All the wet spots were froze solid. I`ve had a lot of questions as to whether you can get to town from the south. YOU CAN but you have to bypass the swamp south of town by riding on the UNPLOWED shoulder of M-123 for about 3 miles.

Today we are gonna hit the Falls trail #45 with a drag and do the Point trails #452 and #453. Remember we only have 2 machines right now. It looks like it will be a week or so before we can get a loaner.

All fer now……LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Groomer Chris

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders www.paradiseareanightriders.org >> 1/23/26
NEGATIVE 2 degrees this morning and snowing. We picked up around 6" of snow yesterday and another 6 or so last night! It`s down right winter out der! All good news for yesterdays happenings so lets rock-n-roll.....
Groomer Mike C. took off in the morning and headed into da south swamp with just a machine. I took off with a machine and drag and headed south also but skipped the swamp section. Before I got done with the South trail #8, Mike radioed me and said hit the swamp with the drag on my way back. He got it packed in pretty good and it turned out good with the drag. It is only one lane for now but we`ll fix that tomorrow. THE GATES ARE NOW OPEN!!!!
After that Groomer Mike C. headed out on the Falls trail #45 with just the machine and Groomer Glenn pulling a drag following him. They got that trail packed in and groomed, it turned out great!!! Groomer Mike C. put in 12 hrs. in a machine yesterday filling and packing in water holes! Great job!!!
Today we are running the Pine Stump trails #8 & #9 and the Point trails #452 & #453. Not sure what we are gonna do with the other machine.
So......total green flag for our entire trail system!!!! COME ON UP and enjoy our hard work!!!!!!
LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11 degrees this morning and snowing. I got a solid 3" on my deck from last night too! Just giving you a quick update before I head out da door to go grooming. I`ve got all good news so lets go.......
Groomers Mike C. and Glenn worked on our down machine all day yesterday and think they have it fixed! Seems to have been a sensor issue...darn electronics anywho. I am taking her out today and running the South trail #8. While I`m doing that, Groomer Mike C. is gonna go into the south swamp and see if he can get it packed in enough to send me thru with the drag on my way back! If all goes well we`ll have at least one lane groomed thru there and we can open the gates!!! When he gets done in there he will hit the Falls trail #45.
Groomer Keith hit the Pine Stump trails #8 & #9 yesterday and rated them as good.
More good news.....Groomer Patrick ran the Point trails #452 & #453 and rated them as good to go. The water holes on the North section are froze in now!!!
So.....everythings good to go in PANR land!! Thank you Mother Nature!!!! COME ON UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Scott's Superior Inn and Cabins >> ❄️ Ontonagon / Porcupine Mountains Snowmobile Trail Report – Winter Storm Wrap-Up ❄️
What a storm! This latest system absolutely delivered, with measured totals ranging from 14 to 24 inches across the region — all depending on which ZIP code you call home. Either way, this was a game-changer snowfall for the western U.P.
The result? Trails are as good as they’ve been in years.
Deep base, excellent coverage, and that soft, ride-anywhere feel that makes the Porkies and Ontonagon area so special. The fresh snow bonded well, filling in old imperfections and setting us up beautifully for grooming. If cold temps stick around (and they are), we’re in a sweet spot.
Expect:
• Outstanding coverage on main corridors
• Great conditions on secondary trails
• Off-trail areas loaded with snow (use caution and ride smart)
Another clipper is heading our way starting today bringing another foot of snow and brutal cold for the weekend. Stay inside if you can and keep all skin covered.
This is the kind of reset we wait all winter for — and right now, it’s prime time to ride the western U.P.
👉 Thinking about making a trip? Trails run right past Scott’s Superior Inn & Cabins — warm rooms, rider-friendly parking, and Lake Superior views when you’re done for the day. Book a stay and make a weekend out of these unreal conditions.
As always: ride right, ride safe, and we’ll see you on the trail. 🛷❄️ #ontonagon #westernup #snowphotos
