Gaylord Area Trail Report – 02/16

Attention Northern Michigan Snowmobilers! We’ve received approximately 6 inches of fresh snow overnight, with forecasts predicting continued lake-effect snow throughout the weekend. While the current trail conditions are suitable for riding, grooming operations are currently on hold. Please use caution while enjoying the trails this weekend, as they have not been groomed as of Friday morning. We will keep you posted with any additional changes to the weather. Please check back for updates and trails conditions.
Please remember that groomers have the right of way and kindly move off the trail so they can safely proceed. If you approach a groomer from behind, the operator will signal when it’s safe for you to pass. Groomers are here to make your ride more enjoyable so please be courteous!

About 1 more inch fell since my update yesterday. From my cameras I could still see the one set of car tracks thru my drive at Sledheads. So I am still sticking with my thoughts from yesterday that it would only be kind of good for the first couple sleds thru. I see all kinds of posts on people that want to or are coming up to ride saying its only carbides and slides, all I know is I wouldnt take my sled out with what we have. I dont like it anymore than everyone else but thats just the way it is. On a brighter note I met Trevor Gruhn yesterday who is a regular reader from down by Kzoo. I fixed him up with a new Sledheads T and sweatshirt. He like everyone else wishes there was more snow too. We need a really heavy duty system snow to hit us. I talked to David over at the swamp last night and he said he only had 2 sleds in all day yesterday and that was about 9 last night. Thanks for checking in and if you do ride please ride safely. Pete

FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Had a great 160 mile ride yesterday. Started out riding to Frederic from home and then to Starvation Lake, Alba, Jordan Valley Trail, D & K formally Larrys in Elmira, up the Chandler HIlls trail until I lost the trail right at dark, then a little ditch banging as after i lost the trail I started south and east as I knew I would hit the highway. Came out by Vanderbilt and theh hit the 7 trail back to Gaylord, Waters and Frederic…..Perfect day of riding. Met up with Big John and Speed Bump for Spike burgers about 9 last night.I might go again this afternoon as I am thinking about a burger at Talleys. Supposed to get cold this weekend. Rode to Lovells last night and then home, left home this morning and rode towards Starvation Lake and then down to Frederic, conditions on trails nice and fluffy and smooth. Happy to say that trail 7 south out of Frederic along with trails 47, 679 and 76 all very nice. I rode 26 miles back here to Frederic and came into sledheads to warm up and am heading back out. Its 16 degrees at almost 1 in the afternoon. Pics are from last night and this morning. Heading back out. Closed again and gone riding. Thanks for checking in. Pete #gaylord #snowphotos
