UPDATE – 11/24 via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> One week to go until the trails open…..fat chance of there being any snow , so my best guess is the wait will be on. To bad we dont have the problem they have in South Dakota where they have snow but trails dont open till the 15th of December. The best day of riding that I had last year was on November 28 when Big John and I got in a nice 60 mile ride after a nice dumping of snow that morning. Everyone always asks me what I think the season is going to be like and my standard answer is I will tell you in April. I need to get some time in at Sledheads and get the front room ready for the season as I tend to let it get a little messy during the summer when I am not open. I put the winter signage back up last week on a nice 60 degree day. I picked up trail permits this week too but I am not putting one on my sled till we have rideable snow. I did see both Kalkaska and Grayling groomers out doing trail maintenance in the past month or so. Thats about it for now. Thanks for checking in. Pete

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Cold temperatures and continued brisk winds tonight will result in bitter cold wind chills of -10°F to -24°F across northern Michigan this morning. Be sure to take the proper precautions if spending time outdoors! Conditions improve this afternoon.
Good chances for snow showers will continue this week. After the cold today, temperatures rebound a bit Wednesday, but that will not last. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Heavy snow and bitter cold wind chills are expected to begin tonight and continue through Monday. New snowfall of 4-8” with locally higher amounts are possible by Monday night/Tuesday morning. Wind gusts of 30-45+ mph are expected Monday morning and afternoon. Wind chills will drop well below zero through Tuesday as well. Combination of heavy snow, winds, and cold will create widespread hazardous travel conditions across northern Michigan with whiteouts possible at times, especially across open areas. JORDAN VALLEY AREA UPDATE via Jordan Valley Trails Council >> Hats off to Mike, Rich and Pete for spending two cold days fixing a minor issue found on the track of the Pisten Bully! These guys have been on the recovery and fix of the blown track and this latest fix this year and we couldn’t do it without them! Hopefully our machine issues are behind us for the year!
Our Milwaukee Tool are a key part of program. From our impacts, grease guns and chainsaws in the cab of our units, these tools make our volunteers lives easier! Our groomers were out all weekend making up for the down machine. Thank you to our volunteers for adjusting their schedules! Trails have come back around since we’ve received some fresh snow to mix in with the crusty snow left from the meld down. Looks like we may receive another foot by next weekend which will help build back up the trail. This week will be frigid so we will adjust grooming as needed for snowfall and temps.
