PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders – 01/16

1/16/25
21 degrees this morning and cloudy. I picked up about 2" of fresh snow on my deck last night, looks like more is coming for the next few days too!! Here`s what went on yesterday……
Groomer Dave ran the South trail #8 and called it fair-good. There are still a few thin spots and the water at the south end of the power line is gettin smaller and easy to get around. The Federal Forest section is really thin for snow and the water holes at the south end are still pretty big. You can get around them but its tough. A better option is head out to M-123 down Curley Lewis and ride the ditch until you can pick up the trail about a half mile down.

Groomer Ben ran the Point trails and called them good with a couple of minor thin spots to deal with on the Doe Lake Rd. section.

Groomer Keith ran the Pine Stump trail and called it good with just a couple of minor thin spots but they are gettin better every day.

Groomer Mike C. was gonna head into the Falls trail #45 last night to work on it as soon as a machine became available. Haven`t heard from him this morning yet so can`t give ya`s any details.

All in all our trail system is in good shape sans a couple of swampy areas. We are working on them VERY hard and hope to get them open soon!!!! I heard the Paradise area is gettin a bad rap. We don`t deserve it!!!! We have a lot of swampy areas that we have to deal with and we can`t do nutin about it. We can`t just run reroutes around everything and cut new trails like some of these knuckle heads are suggesting!!! The snow and COLD temps I see coming will help tremendously.

LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Groomer Chris

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> It's noon here on Monday, January 12th, and this week does present a couple instances of lake effect snow throughout the week. As a preliminary first call for the entire week, we've displayed current odds at areas receiving more than 4" of snow based on data from medium range models, and the WPC.
Most of the lake effect snow for the UP will fall between Tuesday and Thursday, where much of the higher elevation areas along Lake Superior currently have a greater than 50% chance at 4" of snow by the end of the work week. For much of the LP, lake effect snow will be confined primarily to Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, especially AFTER Wednesday heading into Thursday. We are keeping an area of 1-20% across much of southern and central Michigan in the event wind shifts or passing clippers allow for extra accumulation, but the greatest chances for 4" will be in the far southwest corner, the thumb, or your typical lake effect zones across northern lower Michigan.
We have lake effect snow forecasts coming all week, along with other forecasts for other weather phenomena such as wind, rain, and perhaps mixed precipitation. NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump >> 1-11-26
Around 4 inches of snow last night. I see the groomers all made it out. I would guess the trails should freeze up flat now.
I would imagine it will be lower traffic during the week. It would be a pretty good week to ride if you can sneak away! #newberry #snowphotos

Gaylord Bureau –

January 15, 2025

The trails are holding steady in fair condition, with grooming happening day and night. While some areas have thin spots, the flurries in the forecast should help freshen things up soon. Enjoy the ride and stay safe!

A few things to remember about groomers:

– Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way.
– Please move off the trail when groomers are coming and allow them to safely pass.

Sledheads of Frederic – 01/15

Its now wednesday morning about 11 and its still nice and white out. There has been snow fallilng the past several days in Frederic but its not accumulating much. I would guess about 4 inches. They are calling for a clipper on thursday but 39 on friday. Sled traffic is slow around here but it really does look passable. Most riders say the same thing, north and west is better and it gets thin by frederic. Pretty much the same thing every day lately. On the brighter side the one real estate deal that I had going closed yesterday so thats good for me. Thanks for checking in. Pete

I always start in Fredric from sledheads, but trails are always terrible until I get to the kalkaska county line. I'm thinking it's time to ride elsewhere.

Trail 7 from Fredrick to Gaylord is always a mess unless you have a ton of snow to get off of the not groomed trail
