Paradise Area Trail Report – 12/15

December 15, 2017

18 degrees this morning and cloudy. Looks like we picked up a couple of inches of fluff last night. The weather guessers are calling for 4-8 inches today for UP here!!! We`ll see what happens.

Here`s what went on yesterday. Groomers Mike, Dave, Scott and me showed up at the barn to do some wrenching. All went well and we got all three machines out and runnin. Me and Dave took the new machine towards town on trail #45 but ran into a huge water hole half way there. Being we had the new groomer and no back-up we just turned around….this hole was deep and we didn`t want to bury the new groomer already. Groomer Scott took our oldest machine and headed towards town on the other side of the road on trail #8. He got about a mile down the trail and smelled anti-freeze and turned around. Turns out the thermastat housing cracked and he was blowing anti-freeze everywhere……and so it begins. We ordered the parts and just packed it up for the day. We were gonna try to run the Falls trail #45 today but put that on hold because we don`t want to run the new groomer thru the mud and we always take two groomers when freezing down trails. So…..thats it for now…..waiting on parts….ALREADY!!!!! Keep checking back and I`ll keep you up to date.

Groomer Chris

Munising Area Trail Report – 12/15

Really coming down here again this morning! – Terrace Motel – 12/15 (See photos below)

Alger County SORVA – 12/14

Trail preparation is progressing and the trails are coming out nice. Big issue right now is the ground still not frozen. It’s making for time consuming work while panning as the wet snow snow is sticking to everything. It’s been in the low teens so lets hope these packed trails start to freeze in. Still estimating a week out before trails are good – provided more snow comes. Stay tuned for detailed updates.

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.
Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Not too impactful of a system in terms of Michigander standards, but do take it slow if you encounter any snow squalls and/or visibly slick roads. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyHere is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.

A snow squall. Maybe that’s what we had going on in Wakefield today. It was nuts!
