Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 01/23

A little bit of white out there makes it look pretty nice out there. We have had about a half inch of snow overnight and a little ice. Schools were closed pretty much from Clare all the way to the Soo this morning. Still a long ways to go to have rideable snow and still an unfavorable forcast for this coming weekend.

I had to drive to Lovells yesterday and was surprised to see the trees all dangling with ice on them as I drove over there. I figured as long as I was in a different neighborhood I took a pic of the store and the bar in Lovells which didn’t look appealing and then after I was back to Frederic I once again hit the brakes with a double take as I drove by the Frederic Inn. There were zero cars there but sitting along side the building was another motorcycle sitting there running.

I took a pic and continued down to my storage units to drop off a trailer and the bike was still sitting there running when I came back thru…..At least today I doubt if I will see any bikes out there. I see the darkside boys are south east of Montreal near Cornwall, Quebec making their way to the start of their ride. This morning on the news they reported a big earthquake off Kodiak Island and had issued a tsunami warning to get to higher ground.

That gave me a flashback to the time I climbed a tough mountain on the shore on Kodiak. I was definetly on higher ground there but luckily they didn’t get the big one there. It did bring back a good flashback of that trip which is at least a bright spot in this still unridable conditions. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Newberry Trail Report – 01/23

3-6" of fresh drifty snow on our trails. Some bare slippy spots to watch for and a (probably) frozen wet area near trout lake. Trails look pretty smooth with a few scattered bumps left over from the weekend.

PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR GROOMERS LEAVE NEWBERRY AT 2:00 IN THE AFTERNOON TO GROOM. PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR THE GROOMER. PLEASE SLOW DOWN IN THE CORNERS THIS IS WHERE THE MAJORITY OF THE ACCIDENTS OCCUR. LAW ENFOREMENT IS ON THE TRAIL AND THEY DO GIVE TICKETS FOR RECKLESS DRIVING ON A SNOWMOBILE.

Due to the warm temperatures water holes could open up on the trail.

North Trail #9 Trail is in good to very good condition.

Trail #45 This trail is in good condition. Trail #45 has 3 plowed areas from the Skyline to Laurel Lakes Road, Camp 7 road near M-123 and between CR 500 and M-123. Please note the plowed areas can get bumpy and watch for the logging trucks.

South Trail #9/2 This trail is in good condition but please watch out for a water hole by the railroad grade on the way to Trout Lake.
