Seney Trail Report – 01/27

Groomer Bill just returned from his run to the Bear Trap and he said it’s in good shape… have fun out there, be safe guys/gals!

Was just informed that only part of Trail 431 was groomed last night because it was too soft, Groomer Bill is still out on Trail 43/8 toward Shingleton, will update conditions when he returns…

VETERANS RIDE: March 10th. Okay, I’m starting my pitch for registering for the ride. It takes a lot of preplanning to pull off such a large event in a small town with all volunteers. PLEASE call or email to register today. Need numbers for T-shirts and food. We don’t turn anyone away the day of the ride but we have run out of food before and its very embarrassing and a bummer for those last in line. Contact Diane @ 906-287-0207, seneysnowmobiling@gmail.com

If you have never been to a veterans ride before you might want to join us. We start with a ceremony at the flag pole before splitting up into guided groups for a 80-100 mile ride in the majestic woods of the Upper Peninsula on trails groomed just for the ride. A hot lunch is provided off trail at the headwaters of the Taquamanon. Dinner rounds out the day of camaraderie.

Be a Vet, Bring a Vet, or Thank a Vet! Thats our motto. Hope to see you there.

DESERTS NEEDED: I am asking for volunteers to make the deserts again this year for the veterans ride. If you are able to bring up a desert please email me what size, i.e. 9×12 or 1/2 sheet cake pan, so I can tabulate when we have enough.

We started to groom 2 tracks for the vet ride already. If you are a cabin owner, a local, or just someone who boondocks on the 2 tracks you should consider being an SSA club member. Already a member; are your dues current? This is the money used to groom these trails. It cost $200 every time the groomer leaves the barn. As these trails aren’t part of the “system” the club encores all the cost. You can become a member or update your membership thru Paypal at seneysnowmobiling.com or by sending it to SSA, PO Box 102, Seney, MI 49883. If you’d like to make a donation to the vet ride, mail it to the address above.

Sidnaw / Bruce Crossing Trail Report – 01/27

Groomer Report: The warm weather yesterday took a couple inches of our snow and made some of our trails a mess. We were not able to groom last night with the warm temperature but should be back out there tonight.

Good news:
“DNR re-opens snowmobile trail bridge in Marquette County
Bridge repair project completed along Trail No. 8 on the Clowry Grade
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has re-opened a bridge along Trail No. 8 in Marquette County, clearing travel along a section of the main east-west snowmobile connector route in the Upper Peninsula.”

Please DO NOT climb the “Military Hill” from the highway, US 45, to the fence, we have ongoing erosion issues there and the hill climbers are adding to the problem. YOU COULD CAUSE THIS MAJOR TRAIL TO BE CLOSED IF YOU CONTINUE!

Watch for the groomers, they take up most of the trail and have the right of way!
Please pull over and DIM your lights for them, they have a long night out there.
Remember, you can get off the trail, the groomer can not.

Please ride on your own side of the trail and STOP at the stop signs!

Trail #3 North to Rockland is GOOD, better as you go north.
Trail #8 from Ewen to trail #3 North is FAIR.
Trail #3/8 East from Bruce Crossing to the trail #3 South intersection is FAIR.
Trail #3/8 West from Bruce Crossing to the trail #3 North intersection is FAIR.
Trail #3 South from the railroad grade to the CC road is GOOD, better in the woods.
Trail #8 from the trail #3 South intersection to Trout Creek is FAIR.
Trail #8 from Trout Creek to Kenton is FAIR.
Trail #8 from Kenton to Sidnaw is FAIR, better as you go east.
Trail #8/15 from Sidnaw to the trail #109 intersection is GOOD, better as you go north.

When I report “base” that is the depth of the un-groomed snow on my yard South of Sidnaw. There is no possible way to accurately report what the depth is under your snowmobile on the groomed trail, it varies widely.

Have a fun and safe trip, thank you for riding our trails and visiting our local businesses!
