Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 12/07

Grooming has officially begun in the Keweenaw. Trail 3 from Mohawk to Lac la Belle Rd was panned tonight – packing it and filling in any water holes. Trail 3 from Mohawk to Calumet and Trail 17 from Calumet to Hancock will be groomed in the early morning hours.

The additional snowfall received yesterday and today has helped and the trail is in fair condition.

There are still trails closed due to logging and significant wet areas – as soon as these trails freeze up and additional snow falls, they will be opened and grooming will begin.

Trail Closures include:
Trails 122, 124, the northern 132, 133, 134 and Trail 3 from Lac la Belle Rd north into the Harbor.

Unfortunately, this means there is not any access into Copper Harbor at this time by trail. There is also not access to Gay via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club trails. Lac la Belle is still accessible, however Lac La Belle Lodge / Bear Belly Bar & Grill is not open until after Christmas.

All of the trails are expected to be open by Christmas if not before – HOPEFULLY.

Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden and The Freda Loop ( Trails 120 and 121 ) are closed for the entire season due to the storm/flood in June.

At this time the only option for gas is along trail 3 at Vansville Bar in Phoenix – please plan any riding accordingly.

Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 12/07

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming – Our team at Gogebic Area Grooming was able to pack the following trails. Trail 13 North to our turn around at trail 101. Trail 1 from Bergland to White Pine. Trail 8 from Merriweather to Underwood Tower Road (Tula). Trail 1 from Marenisco to Presque Isle. Trail 1 from Marenisco to West Shore Resort. Almost all of the Hoop n Holler access trail. Walleye Lodge, Timberlines Sports, Bergland Snowmobile & Marine, and the town of Bergland access trails.

Again snow is on the trails but it’s still the beginning of season. Lots of rocks on trail 13 North going towards Rockland. We are trying our hardest to fill all the wet spots so your sled won’t go through. Use caution by the county line on trail 8, our groomers had to go around a wet spot about 600 feet long.

Tomorrow we plan on going back up trail 102 to pack the fresh snow we just got. Use caution when traveling this trail tomorrow 11-8-18, as our driver maybe out of the groomer cleaning some brush yet.

Here is some pictures what we took of the trail system as of today.
