We’ve had heavy traffic on the trails and they are currently in fair condition. Groomers are running around the clock and will continue to do so to create the best trail conditions possible. Fresh snow is on the way this weekend, too! As always, stay aware of your surroundings, ride safe and enjoy the snow!

A few things to remember about our groomers and trails:
– Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way.
– Please move off the trail when groomers are approaching and allow them to safely pass.
– If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
– Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night, so stay alert.
– Always ride on the right side of the trail.
– Ride safe and ride sober.

FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 02/09
It’s a nice calm sunday morning in downtown Frederic, almost noon. Sleds are out and about buzzing town. Typically on super bowl sunday everyone leaves town early. We had a total of I would say 6 to 8 inches of nice system snow yesterday. One nice thing with this much snow is that there is so much of it that it spreads the riders out so it doesnt seem as busy. This doesnt happen very often. Yesterday I heard the train horn and right away I knew it was the annual Michigan State Police train and they are looking for sledders that are doing things wrong like to close to the tracks. There must have been 4 sheriff cars and 4 state police tahoes coming thru town at the same time. In the pic below look at the big MSP magnet they put on the train. Moral of the story is stay away from the train tracks. Also the post from yesterday where the table full of people that didnt pay at the swamp was taken care of. They made it right so thats good. First sled in this morning was Clifford who swung thru to say hi. He wins the hard charger award just for driving so far and keeping all of his sleds running. Thanks for checking in. Pete

WEATHER UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> ~(Updated) Snowfall Forecast Sunrise Sunday-Sunrise Tuesday~
A major winter storm is expected to bring significant snowfall to portions of the region. Most of the accumulating snow will be along and north of I-80. No matter how much snow will fall, there will be strong northwest winds that will create blowing and drifting snow. Travel north of I-80 will be near impossible at times. Some road closures are possible along and north of I-90 given greater accumulation and more persistent blizzard-like conditions. Heaviest snowfall totals through sunrise Tuesday (there will be more after) will be along Lake Superior. Snowfall rates could exceed 2" an hour at times due to lake enhancement. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Frederic is a cloudy ghost town so far this saturday morning. No one around and 31 degrees. Surprisingly we had about an inch and a half of pebbly sleet/snow yesterday. I only saw 2 groups of 3 sleds and one group of 2 all day yesterday. 3 of those sleds are pictured below and they were the only ones yesterday. Looks like we might get some snow the beginning of the week. The riders from yesterday were happy to be out but its hard out there. I met a youngster in town this morning from St Henry Ohio who is a regular rider. I didnt get his name. but its great to see young people wanting to ride. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> 30 years ago this would have been the start of hell week. GM, Chrysler, & Ford would all be closed up and thousands would flock north for winter break and fun in the snow. Well fast forward from that 30 years ago and its pretty darn lonely here now. Sleet coming down this morning and a marginal amount of snow. It used to be so much different with snow in Frederic compared to Grayling. Forcast isnt looking great for this week either. I did see a few sleds out on Christmas eve day and the pic below of the 3 of them over at the swamp. Nothing so far today and its 11 a..m and 29 degrees.
