Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 01/24

FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 01/24

It’s a comfy 20 degrees, a perfect temp to ride. I am still surprised at the lack of sleds around, granted snow is thinner here in Frederic than west of here but there are still not many around. Usually as long as it looks white the riders will show up.

I had a group of 3 guys park out back yesterday and they were just here again this morning and they said they had a great ride yesterday going north and west and they are going to do it again today. I have had several people write and ask me why they are not grooming and its an easy answer. Not enough snow but Gaylord has been out each day here to Frederic and Grayling did do trail 7 to Frederic last nite. So its a start but we still need more snow for the groomers to pull and make it a nice trail. Pretty much the same story each day.

The forcast for the next week calls for scattered snow most every day with acceptable temps so lets see how that works out. I finally got my sign made for my back parking lot with payment options of Zelle, Paypal and Venmo on it. If you do come here to park when you pull in go as far as you can to the east end of the lot and either pull or back in so your rig is facing north or south.

I have talked to a few people this morning that have said the highway is busy with trailers heading north so thats a bit promising. Thats about it for friday morning so lets see what the weekend brings. Thanks for checking in. Pete

WEATHER UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> ~(Updated) Snowfall Forecast Sunrise Sunday-Sunrise Tuesday~
A major winter storm is expected to bring significant snowfall to portions of the region. Most of the accumulating snow will be along and north of I-80. No matter how much snow will fall, there will be strong northwest winds that will create blowing and drifting snow. Travel north of I-80 will be near impossible at times. Some road closures are possible along and north of I-90 given greater accumulation and more persistent blizzard-like conditions. Heaviest snowfall totals through sunrise Tuesday (there will be more after) will be along Lake Superior. Snowfall rates could exceed 2" an hour at times due to lake enhancement. Expect over a foot in most areas along the lakeshore before dropping as you get closer to the WI border. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskey~OUTDATED~

Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 01/24

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports >> 01/24

Brrrrrr! It’s been some REALLY 🥶 cold & ❄️ snowy days on the trails, but the temps are slowly starting to become a bit more tolerable!

Trails are in really in great shape heading into the weekend!
A familiar face to the Keweenaw, Don Wineland and crew have been riding the area this week. Today they stayed North of Houghton and did a nice loop that included a ride on the Valley Sno Drifters Dreamland Trails!

Don said, “We rode Mohawk to Houghton/Hancock on trail 3 & 17. We then took trail 3 to Lake Linden and all were very good! We rode the trail off 122 down to Dreamland Restaurant & Bar for a good meal. The Dreamland Trail was singe track in some areas but was in great shape! We then took the Dreamland Trail from Dreamland to Dollar Bay – all good. We then took trail 3 back to Mohawk, it was a little choppy from Lake Linden to Calumet but good after Calumet back to Mohawk. We met the groomer at Copoer City. We also stopped at Maple Leaf off of trail 122.”

Thanks for sharing Don!

We have had nunerous messages about the High Rock Bay spur trail (trail 136) asking why it has not been groomed and when it will get groomed….We can only reply that according to the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club “There is not enough snow yet to groom Trails 151 (into Eagle River)and 136 to High Rock Bay”

Please download the Groomer Tracker and subscribe to the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club trail system and you will have real time grooming information about High Rock Bay trail and all other trails!

⚠️ the snowy days have been wonderful, however, visibility has been extremely difficult at times. We are lifting the rider in prayer, that was involved in a single sled accident today on trail 3, around Twin Lakes. PLEASE ride with extreme caution at all times and especially with limited visibility of falling snow and snow dust.

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western UP Trail Reports >> 28 December 2025
Four days of warm weather and a fair amount of traffic took its toll on the trails. It's what we call a surgery snow that's hard to work with but you mix it with the fresh stuff that's coming and it's good to go, I hope.
