Today is the first official day of winter, yea!!!!!
21 degrees this morning and a light snow is falling. Looks like we picked up a solid inch last night according to my deck. Picked up 3-4 the last couple days also in case you`re wondering. Also, in case you`re wondering, we have a solid foot and a half on the ground. The weather guessers are calling for a couple- few more in the next few days and then the temps dropping like a rock by Christmas and a bunch of snow….yea!!!!
OK. I know this is supposed to be a trail report but lately it seems more like a broke down groomer report. I do this because the condition of the machines is relevant to the trails. We`ve had an awful start to the season as far as the machines go but hopefully I`m done on this subject. I`ll give you an update on them then I`m done with it….hopefully.
We got the brand new machine fixed yesterday. I am VERY impressed with the response time on that for the factory to send somebody out….1 day…nice. The groomer with the broken heater is working. Remember we got it "yooper rigged" so the heat works. The new parts are here and we are gonna wait for Andy and Ryan( remember them? ) to put the new ones in cause they took it apart and know better how to put it back together. The parts for the other machine are here also (remember the cracked thermastat housing ? ). It should take only an hour to fix that. Now finally on to the trails…..
Trail #8 from town to Pine Stump is in great shape. It is our only high and dry trail. Sorry to say this is my only good news for the trails. We have not been out on any other trails cause of all the water on them and the machine problems. All gates are closed on the Falls trail #45 and trail #8 south of town. As fas as the Point Trails #`s 452 and 453, you can ride some sections but the far north section is pretty wet. Like I said at the begining of this post the temps are supposed to drop into the negative numbers at night and single digits during the day by Monday so this will help. I will keep on top of it to keep ya`ll informed. Keep checking back. All fer now.

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA – We have been getting a little snow, inch or two each day. Not enough to get out and groom though. All trails North of Buckhorn Road have been prepped and packed in and we are doing occasional trail dressing around town. We will probably hit the trails again over the next few days just to keep them defined and pack a base. We really need a substantial snow fall to finish packing in the wet areas and start grooming – let’s hope for the best…..
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Light snowfall across the area eventually dwindles away to pure lake effect over the northwest wind snow belts of the eastern U.P. tonight. Attention then turns to a quick hitting system Sunday evening/night. Heavy snowfall rates and low visibilities could create very difficult travel for a hour or two underneath the heavy snow. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaLight snowfall across the area eventually dwindles away to pure lake effect over the northwest wind snow belts of the eastern U.P. tonight. MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails >> We are making good progress on the trail and groomed from end to end tonight with the exception of a couple spots that we will hit Saturday to punch our way through without the drag along for the first pass and plowing some snow into a pesky wet area that plagues us early on every year. We still have a couple areas where heavy drifting has the trail a little narrow untill the Temps warm a little and the snow firms up enough to widen it without sinking to the bottom. For the most part things are shaping up well and conditions are good for laying down a nice smooth trail. We can't forget to thank our great local supporter Laurie for stopping out with a bag of goodies to help us through the night. #munising#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
