19 degrees this morning and snowin- n- blowing! Picked up maybe an inch or two last night and "they" are calling for an inch or two more today. Good news/bad news for the trails so lets get to it……
Very heavy traffic this weekend so bad news is they got pretty beat up. Good news is they all groomed up nice. Groomer Mike C. ran the Pine Stump trails and reported them good. Groomer Mike H. hit the Falls trail and reported it as good plus after he got done. We did not hit the Point trails yesterday but they are gettin run as I type this.
Now a little bad…..we had a break down Friday on the South trail. Only the first 15 miles or so got run cause we sprung a hydraulic leak and had to limp the machine back to the barn…luckily Groomer Dave made it back. Soooo…..if you were riding the South trail late Friday or early Saturday you ran into some pretty rough stuff. Good news is we got it fixed Friday night and I ran the trail Saturday and it groomed up nice. A little more bad news is a water hole opened up in da swamp Saturday late afternoon. It was about 5′ long and 3′ deep and all across the trail so it was difficult to get around. Good news is I got it filled in on my way back thru, it wasn`t there on my way out, and its all good now. This futher shows why I say slow down and take it easy in that section!
Speaking of slowing down. We had A LOT of speed freaks out on the trails this weekend. PLEASE SLOW DOWN when the trails are busy!!!!! Imagine flying around a corner and hittin a family with kids just because you are being an idiot and thinking you`re Jonny racer!!! SLOW THE HELL DOWN PEOPLE on busy weekends or any time for that matter. Groomer Mike H. even had some sleds fly by him at 60-70 MPH in the machine!!! SLOW THE HELL DOWN PEOPLE!!!!!! When you come up on a groomer we expect you to pass by at a walking speed!!!

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Town Hall Snowmobile Club Paradise MI >> Paradise to Seney today was excellent- We took “alternate” routes and boondocks to and from Pine Stump but I’m sure the paradise trails were fair despite the fact they are not being maintained at the present time. Massive drifts coming back and white out conditions made for a blast. Chics Hot Dog Stand 8 and 452 Paradiseprovided the Hot chocolate on the way out. Ended the evening at Wheelhouse Diner & Goat Locker Saloon back in Paradise. TASA, Grand Marias, and Seney operations have their trails dialed in beautifully- Andy’s Bar in Seney has the burger!! All areas received several inches of fresh snow today and it’s still coming down hard at 11pm. #paradise #newberry #snowphotos
Thanks for the report! What’s going on up in paradise? We are planning our first UP trip next Friday staying there. Are their trails rideable or should we go elsewhere? Thx.

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.
Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Some sections got a few inches of fresh snow today which made for good but most were very “chattery” with engine temps constantly elevating. We stayed mostly off the trails where possible as the two tracks were excellent! If you are the kind that cares about hyfax and carbides- conditions aren’t for you but plenty of fun to be had. #paradise #newberry #snowphotos

Very pleased with what we're finding so far, lost some base, knew that, 10 miles out, 2 groups of 6 sleds from behind leaving town.
Squishing any water into the in the low spots into the snow, cool if you can go around and let them freeze up smooth, but now major damage at all and its been snowing since I left town. #newberry #snowphotos

15 degrees this morning and snowing. We got just a light dusting last night. Yesterday was a night mare. I hit 43 degrees here and got about a 1/4 inch of rain. We lost quite a bit of snow. Looking out my window I would say I have just less than a foot left. We were off to a good start! The big thing I think people don`t realize is that the snow melt has to go somewhere. Our trail system has a lot of low country and guess where the water goes....right.....back into the swamps! This water then gets warmed a bit because of the rotting vegetation and there you have it.....more darn water holes on the trails!!!! This is the main reason we can`t get going as early as some of the other surrounding clubs do.
As far as our plans go.....It looks like the weather is gonna cool back down to normal for the next few days. We are gonna let things freeze back up and then Sunday we are gonna send 2 machines w/o drags down the Falls trail #45 and see what we got. Trails #452 & #453 around the Point are ridable but thin in areas, they are not groomed yet, just packed. Trail #8 to da Stump is groomed but it is thin in spots too. Trail #8 south is just packed and the gates into the Federal Forest section are closed because of water. Thats about it for now. This thaw really hurt our plans.

I flew into Pellston yesterday evening- there was heavier rain all the way south of M28- Seems North of there got spared the brunt of it… #paradise #newberry #snowphotos

NEWBERRY - EASTERN U.P. UPDATE via Clarke Motel >> UPDATE.....With all the calls and messages today after the warm day yesterday and the rain, here is how we faired here!!
First off two of my guests rode 80 miles this morning from here to Brimley and then up the 8 to the closed Paradise gate and back, they were very happy with the trails so far.
I just returned from taking videos at multiple trail crossings in our area, also took a Pic out my truck window of the current conditions here at the Clarke and also driving down M28. Now with that said, some low areas in trails where slush and water stood yesterday may not be froze yet today, the temp is 13 degrees right now and the feels like is minus 4. So things changed quick, its currently snowing lightly now. #newberry #snowphotos
