FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 02/13

Just another beautiful sunny spring day at about 32 degrees and its gonna get warmer than that, forcast for the next few days pretty much still sucks. When I stopped at the National Weather service last week I got the new phone number for their forcast line. Just call this number and follow the prompts for the 3 day forcast or the extended forcast. Its a handy number to have. I used to call it all the time and then a few years ago it changed and I could never get thru. I did just listen to the extended and they are calling for snow thurs, friday and saturday…….I guess we will have to see how that really pans out. The number is 989 731 6860. They do a great job of keeping it updated. Other than that its the same old blah blah blah. Pic below my friend sent me yesterday of his plate at the breakfast buffet at the Swamp. Julie does a great job of putting out a big variety of breakfast goodies. I highly recommend it. Thanks for checking in and do some snow chants. Pete

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Lake effect snow continues today, stops, then resumes in intensity overnight into Tuesday, January 26th and 27th, 2026.
Discussion
Our west winds kick up to the 30-40 mph range later tonight. Prior to that happening, a northwest wind will batter some lake effect areas with an additional 1-3" this afternoon, with pockets of 4"+ possible. As we move into Tuesday, a widespread blanket of 2-5", with pockets of 4-8" will overtake the Lake Michigan shoreline, eastern UP, and Keweenaw Peninsula. Temperature difference between water and air, plus adequate lift will fuel lake effect all the way through Wednesday morning. Additionally, we have a clipper moving through on Tuesday that will bring isolated pockets of 1-3" to the east side. Most locations should still be beneath an inch, however, too many variables are in play to not mention it.
Travel will be impacted along and west of US-131, with minor travel impacts all the way over to the US-127 corridor (I-75 north of Grayling). The clipper will be swinging through with the initial push of gusty winds after midnight tonight through 10 am Tuesday morning. Again, this will be for totals starting at noon today, and lasting through 8 am EST Wednesday, with most of the snow falling throughout the entire day Tuesday. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyLake effect snow continues today, stops, then resumes in intensity overnight into Tuesday, January 26th and 27th, 2026.

FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Frosty and crunchy at 4 degrees on friday morning in Frederic, I saw the groomer heading out on 47 trail by the high school and 2 sleds right at that corner too. Already been several sleds in this morning and I made an early trip to the Sled Shed to get me some carbides for my ski doo. Those carbides have been on back order all season and I got the last set of 6 inch from Sled Shed. I wanted to make sure I get to ride again. I am happy to say that several riders told me that all trails they were on were well groomed. That is good to hear. The OSSA group were in here yesterday afternoon and they are staying up in Gaylord this year and at least we have great snow this year. Thanks Gary Hines for stopping in with everyone. Already sold the 4 pair of Gauntlets that I had this morning. My frederic-mi.com site is messed up again and Rebecca is on that. I was bummed to see the guys that were winter camping in my back lot left last night. I thought they were staying thru the weekend. Thanks for checking in. Pete #gaylord #snowphotos ... Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Dangerous wind chills will be widespread today, especially this morning. Wind chills in the 20s below zero; some areas could feel as cold as -30F. This will be dangerous, as frostbite can develop in as little as 30 minutes on exposed skin. Limit time outdoors and dress in layers. Keep a winter weather survival kit in your vehicle in case you get stranded.
Gusty northwest winds plus continued powdery lake effect snow will lead to significant reductions in visibility with whiteouts at times through this afternoon, especially in open areas where snow can easily blow around. Dangerous travel conditions are expected, and wind chills well below zero will be even more problematic if you end up stranded on the road. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyDangerous wind chills will be widespread today, especially this morning. Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 02/13

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming – 02/13

(Behind the scenes) Trail 13 south of Lake Gogebic has been a treat this year. We were able to pull off a miracle to get trail 13 open for snowmobile season. The Reroute took many hours to find landowners and to get approval to make it a trail. We now had to close the reroute down and go back to our original trail. Yesterday, we broke open the trail and resigned 13 south of trail 100. We also connect trail 100 and 13 intersection to to Stagecoach road to make for less road riding.😁 Please follow the signs to avoid the logging area. Hope Mother Nature doesn’t hurt us too much. Also a thank you to Riesterer & Schnell Outdoor Equipment to let us try a John Deere Tractor on our trails. Was really impressed how well it handled on our system of trails.
