Honor Motel – January 13, 2012
Finally warming up the sleds, the kid has so been waiting for this!

Benzie Visitor Bureau – 01/13

Hi all! Friday the 13th is looking LUCKY for us! Ya! We have snow, and just in time for the weekend! Geesh I took a couple nice walks since it was sunny and almost 50, then boom! Temps dropped yesterday and snow came! Not sure if its enough for the groomers to get out quite yet though, but we did get about 3-6′ around our area. It was the wet heavy stuff, especially at first then temps dropped and now its a nice solid snow to make a good base! Temps are supposed to stay near the teens thru the weekend. This system is supposed to drop another 3 plus inches today especially in the snow belts. So! With the at least 3, but more like 4-6′ last night and what we get today, it should be shaping up nice for the weekend, depending on how heavy the traffic gets and if we get more snow! When I hear if its enough for the groomers to get out, I will let you know! Reminder Snowmobile safety class tomorrw at the Manistee Benzie Snowbirds club in Kaleva! The class is free of charge to ages 12 and up. Registration 8:15-9am. Class 9am, with testing approximately 2:30. Class usually done about 4pm. The Snowmobile Club provides lunch amd is located at 14121 Industrial Ave. Kaleva. So – C’mon winter, stick around hot and heavy now! Well, ok, I should say ‘cold and heavy’ but you get my ‘drift’! Hah! Drop me a note that you’re out there and how the trails are looking and and I love stories and pics! So, be smart, be safe, & I’ll CYA on the trails! Carol B

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/13

We have received 6-18 inches of fluffy snow with more coming down across the western end of the upper peninsula. High temps in the teens Friday and Saturday and in the upper 20’s Sunday and Monday.
GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY Reports both groomers are out packing the 12-18 inches of new snow. Trails 2,8 and 11S are in good condition with some excellent areas. 160 is in good condition but has two wet spots so use caution. Use caution on 11S as logging is getting underway on the last four miles so watch out for logging trucks. Grooming will NOT be done on 11N until next week as there is an issue with swamp and water.

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMERS report trails are being groomed and in good condition and loaded with snow. They are the best they have been this season. The groomers will be out packing the trails and keeping them in shape.

U.P.THUNDER RIDERS OF WATERSMEET report all trails are groomed and the trails are in fair to good condition. The Groomers will be back out tonight working with the 6-8 inches of snow that they received.

Keep in mind the groomers will be out day and night, so watch for them, and PLEASE pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.
