Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 03/11

Greetings Sledders,

I’m sure that many of you are wondering if we have anything left for the final hoorah this coming weekend and the answer to that is yes although the conditions aren’t quite what we had during weekends past.

Yesterday the high in the sky March Sun was on full blast with virtually no cloud cover to be seen and it did take a toll, not a death blow but definitely a toll on the trails and especially on all of the County roads that connect the various trail segments. A good example of that is Lewiston Grade behind us which is shot, however you can trailer to the parking lot and ride all day on and off the trail but you can’t get to Lovells to get gas and food without enduring a bunch of bare roads.

Bottom-line is I’m calling the trails fair, there’s still snow on most of each segment, but you will see stretches that were once snirt that now are probably dirt. A ride able situation but far from the Good to Very Good status we had just a week or so ago.

In looking at the long range weather forecast it would seem that this deal is about to come to another close which I will do next Tuesday.

If you do come up plan on having to feel your way around here and there and I believe that it’s doable just not what we’ve been accustomed to this year.

Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy and The Girls

At Fay’s Motel enjoy direct access to the Grayling Area snowmobile trails.

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 03/11

Today’s temps will be a high of 34 with a low of 1. The rest of the week temps will be in the 30’s with the exception of Wednesday with temps a high of 13 and low of 6. Because of low traffic, the trails are awesome. Now is the time to enjoy some great riding.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority – Trails were groomed on Saturday. The groomers were on hold for a couple of days because of the warmer weather. They will be going out again tomorrow with the colder weather. Trails are holding up with our good base and lots of snow. Groomers are reporting trails are in fair to good condition. The DNR reports that trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter.

The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Grooming is ongoing. No problems to report on the system except some snowmobilers are riding on the railroad tracks through Merriweather and Bergland. The snowmobile trail runs parallel to the tracks and some are mistaking the trail. WATCH for the snowmobile trail signs as you WILL be ticketed for riding on the tracks.

The Watersmeet groomer’s report: Grooming is ongoing at night. USE CAUTION ON TRAIL #3 DUE TO WATER ON THAT TRAIL. Trail 3 south of Watersmeet, south of US 45 heading to Land O lakes has an area where a creek has dammed up flooding water and ice onto the trail. All other trails are good to very good condition. Come out and get some great riding in.

Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
