Grooming Report 9:30 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2016
Temp 38 degrees, windy and raining.
Rider reports have trails holding OK in the warm weather with trail conditions good. This is a very high traffic weekend. Snow is getting soft and wet and moguls are beginning to form in areas.

Our groomer team has just met and made an experienced consensus, based on the forecast, that grooming will begin around 4 to 5 am Sunday morning. We need part of Saturday night and early Sunday morning to allow the snow to cool back down before it will process properly. With the lack of snow this year, and in the near forecast, there is too much risk of greatly shortening the trail life and riding season if we start grooming much earlier.

Please do your part as riders to preserve the trail conditions and trail base during these warm days. Ride with a smooth throttle and do not hammer in and out of the corners. It will make for a more enjoyable weekend of riding for everyone.

Munising Trail Report. We have approximately 24 inches of snow for base on the ground; more in some spots and little less in others. We are predicted to get higher temps and rain over the weekend/next few days. Grooming was done last night, however day grooming has been suspended for the day due to the high temperatures.We are “playing it by ear” for night grooming depending on the temperature and conditions at night. Unfortunately, the forecast is coming true and we are experiencing some much warmer than normal temps this weekend. We will not be able to groom during the daytime hours with temps over 30 degrees. That includes Friday night if the temps stay as high as predicted. Rain is in the forecast for Friday; however this is expected to be followed by snow showers on Saturday. Sunday should bring a change back to the 20’s (sure – after the weekend riding is over). At this time we have plenty of snow for riding however the conditions will not be the best this weekend with temps running so high and grooming not possible under these conditions.

VERY IMPORTANT -We want to remind all to be sure to exit the lake at the Bergland Dock – DO NOT RIDE BEYOND THIS POINT. We think some of you may have mistaken the cell tower with its red flashing light in the distance as a spot to ride to – which will take you right to the dam.

No problems to report on any trails at this time, however continue to watch for logging truck traffic over a portion of Trail 102, and always remember to respect the trucks and give them the right of way at all times – for your safety… The logging on a portion of Trail 13 south has been reduced already to about a mile of that section, south of the Root Celler. Please keep in mind that the logging companies have granted us easement to run our trails on their property so we have to respect the signing and stay out of their way or risk losing the easement. Reduce speed through this area and watch for truck traffic. Please remember to always ride to the right and single file to prevent accidents, especially on blind corners.
