I think it’s safe to say that snowmobile season is over for this season. Temperatures have been in the 50’s for the past few days with major melting. It’s even raining as I write this. It is supposed to get colder over this coming weekend, but just for a couple of days with a chance of flurries. I won’t say that there isn’t a chance for a late March snowstorm but I do not think the groomers will be able to go out anymore due to the wetness at this point of the season. I will let you know if we do get any measureable amount of snow later in the month – for all you die hard snowmobilers who want to get in just one additional ride this season.

The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open. The groomers will be going out as conditions permit. Trails are in late season condition.

Any trail usage should be done with extreme care as there are rocks, stumps, branches and wet areas not covered by snow and hazards that have not yet been identified. Road crossings are bare.

The mat on the Portage Lift Bridge will be removed today.

Trail 122 to Gay is closed for logging until further notice. Alternate routes to Gay are trails 124 and 133.

Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails, they have the right of way!!

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.
