Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/11

For the next few days our temps are going to be mild with our daytime temps for Wednesday the high will be 32 and the low will be 25. For Thursday our high is going to be 34 with a low of 21. We need some colder temps and more snow to get our trails in better shape.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority is reporting trails icy and have a thin base but are rideable. It is early season riding. Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay US 2 Crossing is good with icy corners. Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield is poor to fair. Many water hazards have frozen but trails are now icy. Take it slow on corners. Wakefield to Marenisco was rolled on 12/6-12/7. The pipelines and power line section have some very wet spots use caution in this area.

Trail 8 from Bingo’s to Tula Crossing is poor. There is a large water hole on the Gogebic Area Grooming section. This opened up on Saturday. Please use alternative routes until we get cold temps to freeze these areas over.

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River in WI is poor. It has not been groomed, packed or rolled. With the traffic from this weekend it is very rough.

Trail 11S Wakefield to Winchester, WI is poor. It has not been groomed. This has only half of the snow the northern trails have. This section has some deep water holes and lots of mud. Use extreme caution.

Trail 11N is closed.

The Lake Gogebic Area Grooming reports Groomers are out grooming after a busy weekend. Groomers are requesting that riders hold off until we get some more snow. Trails are early season riding.

Trail 8 east has been brushed and dragged on 12/10.

Trail 8 west by the county line has a water hole. Please try and stay off Trail 8 west until the wet areas can freeze.

All other trails have been packed and groomed we are just waiting for more snow.

Watersmeet U. P. Thunder Riders are reporting trails are poor. The trails are open officially so please ride with caution.

There is only 3-5 inches of snow on our trail system and that is not enough to get the groomers out. We will be out as soon as we get enough snow to start packing a base.

PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN CAUSE THE CLUBS TO LOSE EASEMENT ON OUR TRAIL SYSTEM. PLEASE STAY ON TRAILS……
