Ironwood Trail Report – Gogebic Range Trail Authority – 03/20

Our President took this video this morning out his back door…Quite the tease, eh? Tons of snow in the woods yet, trails have water hazards here and there, they are WHITE and we hope to do some grooming before the weekend. Everything was hit Sunday and with low midweek traffic trails are flat! Ride cautiously, ride right & ride sober!

From the President's desk...Our board of directors met today at my employer's executive conference room to discuss plans for the next 12 months. In my 3 now going on 4 short years I've served with incredible community-focused volunteers posessing tremendous talents and skills. This group though, takes the cake. I am so excited to see what comes from this long 7-hour day of uninterrupted planning because these volunteers are in a league of their own. It's truly an honor to call these folks my friends, me being 32 years old and working with such experienced professionals teaches me endless lessons. Apologies to Mr. Rundell who is hidden behind a map graciously provided by Gogebic County Forestry that will be key for future trail development. Can't wait to get these summer projects off the ground! #allvolunteerclub #dualsport #michigan #snowmobile #orv #thisclubbuildstrails ... See MoreSee Less

GRTA Club President invited Destination Polaris up for several days of guided riding last October. We had the amazing opportunity to show case the state-line trail system between Hurley, WI and Gogebic County, MI as well as all the incredible places to visit while riding here. Our club is working hard to expand ORV riding opportunities locally and we can't wait to see the show! Tune in!!We are so excited for the next episode of Destination Polaris! We invited the crew to our neck of the woods to show what Wisconsin and the far Western U.P. can offer ORV riding enthusiasts. Head guide Steve Hamilton led the crew around Northern Iron County, WI and Gogebic County MI in October last fall with some of his favorite riding friends. Tune in this weekend to check it out! youtu.be/vmr-ervfZkM ... See MoreSee Less

MINNESOTA ALERT: Get active and make some calls! We all deserve the right to recreate!ATTN: ALL ATVAM MEMBERS AND OHV RIDERS.
YOUR SUPPORT OF THE B2B TOURING ROUTE IS BADLY NEEDED

(Please share this with your club and riding group)

Right now, at the State Legislature, anti-motorized groups are strongly opposing the Border-to-Border Touring Route across northern Minnesota. Years of public meetings and thoughtful route planning have gone into this proposal, an adventure touring route for families in 4WD trucks to ride responsibly on public roads from Lake Superior to North Dakota. The Minnesota 4WD Association is asking all off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts to submit a short comment in favor of B2B to their State Legislators. Please read this note on how to do it. And please do it today. The Legislative Session ends soon. Thanks!
---------------------------
A MESSAGE FROM DAN LARSON, GOV'T AFFAIRS, MN 4WD ASSOCIATION:

Progress on the B2B is being threatened by people who don’t like motorized recreation.

The Conference Committee for the Omnibus Environment and Natural Resources Finance bill was named on Friday and will begin meeting tomorrow morning (May 8th) to iron out differences between the House and Senate bills.

I learned today that the Sierra Club and Isaac Walton League have motivated their members to contact legislators with messages in opposition to the B2B, and that the number of contacts through calls and emails have been significant.

Conferees will do a side by side comparison of the bills and take testimony from DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen tomorrow. On Wednesday (May 8th), the committee will take public testimony.

Again, progress on the B2B is being threatened by people who don’t like motorized recreation. If they are successful in shutting down or impeding the B2B, they will work to eliminate the other projects you (MN4WD, ATVAM and ARMCA) have been working on in good faith over these many years.

This is a call to action for every member of the MN4WDA (and other motorized groups), every non-member wheeler you know, their families, friends and relatives. Please get the word out - right now - to anyone you know who supports wheeling to contact their own Legislators, the conference committee members, and House Majority Leadership with a simple message:

(copy and paste this message OR write your own)

β€œI and my family are off-road vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts and are writing in support of the Border-to-Border Off-Road Touring Route. Off-Road Touring is a popular activity across the country and the interest is growing as quickly in Minnesota as the frustration is at the limited riding opportunities. The B2B is a great way to help meet the state goal of getting new and diverse users into the outdoors. Please support the Border-to-Border Off-Road Touring Route."

Ironwood Trail Report – Gogebic Range Trail Authority – 03/18

We groomed several hundred miles this past weekend, all of our system was groomed at least twice including 160 & 11S. THERE REMAINS WAIST DEEP SNOW AND A BASE OF 12-30" OF SNOW ON THE TRAILS. Water holes are back and here to stay, while there are only a few hazards like this on our trails, many are around the Wakefield area, especially near trail 2/8 intersection. Later this week the trail between Bessemer & Wakefield will get really tough, the county has removed the ditch trail to allow for proper drainage pushing riders to a complete road-route trail. We suggest trailering and ride out of Wakefield to access our eastern system. Trails were in beautiful shape this weekend and we saw many riders enjoying them, THANK YOU! There will be tons of snow in the woods for a very long time. March may run its course warm, but April could be a very different story. Stay safe sledders!
