ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via NORTH COUNTRY SNOWMOBILE CLUB – 01/19
Vice President mac ( wish him a happy birthday today)and President aka groomer Mikey were out all night and morning trying to get the trails back in shape after 3 days of rain and warm temps, we had 12″ rock hard moguls to cut and lots of wet spots to fill we should have 80% of our system I good shape by Friday am.
Trail 1 from white pine to lake of the clouds is 70% groomed its thin along Lake superior with a couple wet spot you can go around .
Trail 11 s. Boundary road is groomed and good gonna be some bumps in a couple corners yet.
Trail 12 from white pine and is ok.. lots of chatter bumps in the corners wet spots are filled
Trail 12 from Ontonagon to Greenland is groomed but still has a few bumps all wet spots are filled
Trail 137 is groomed and is decent still a few small bumps.
Trail 13 did not get groomed yet but is first on the list for tonight all 3 groomers will be out and hopefully we will have the whole system groomed by Friday and it’s snowing with 4 to 6″ by tomorrow night

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Blizzard conditions persist today for central and eastern Upper Michigan, while snowfall lessens in the west. Winds are expected to increase this morning, potentially peaking near 50 for large portions of the region. >60 mph winds are possible by Lake Superior. Not a single set of sled tracks...trails are setting up nicely with this snow and colder temps.

Blizzard Warnings have moved South to include Leelanau, Emmet, Cheboygan, Southeastn Chippewa, Mackinac Island/Bois Blanc, Beaver Island. Ice Storm Warnings have moved South to include Wexford, Missaukee, Oscoda, Alcona and Alpena Counties. Winter Weather Advisories now include Clare, Osceola Counties.
The warm line is farther South keeping higher totals North. Winds continue to pick up along with the snow tonight.

➡️ Up to 3 feet of snow is expected in this storm.
➡️ The Blizzard Warning lasts until 8 pm Eastern Monday.
➡️ Expect strong wind gusts up to 45 mph, snow falling at rates up to 1” per hour, plus significant drifting.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Potentially historic, record-breaking snowfall between 1 and 3 feet expected across all of Upper Michigan. Highest storm total snow expected in the central and east. Greatest potential for 4 feet is the high terrain of north-central. Strong winds and heavy snowfall rates will result in a long duration of blizzard conditions. Widespread impacts: dangerous to impossible travel, power outages, prolonged recovery time.
