GRAND MARAIS UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. – 03/29
As the season comes to a close, we would like to thank all of you that came and supported our trail system and our town. This season had its share of difficulties. No matter the situation, you all were there with words of appreciation and support. This meant a lot to us here at GMST.
We would like to give a shout out to all our businesses and the snowmobiling community. Whenever we needed help, be it financial or an extra hand, you responded. Thank you.
This season we were blessed with an incredible crew of drivers. They groomed 18,734 miles of trail. This included all of our original grant money as well as our supplemental grant money. Our youngest driver, Sam ended the year with 6000+ miles groomed. Groomer Al logged 3500 miles and groomer Todd had 3000+ miles. Six other drivers filled out the rest of the line up. You guys are ROCK STARS!!!!

A major winter storm is expected to bring significant snowfall to portions of the region. Most of the accumulating snow will be along and north of I-80. No matter how much snow will fall, there will be strong northwest winds that will create blowing and drifting snow. Travel north of I-80 will be near impossible at times. Some road closures are possible along and north of I-90 given greater accumulation and more persistent blizzard-like conditions. Heaviest snowfall totals through sunrise Tuesday (there will be more after) will be along Lake Superior. Snowfall rates could exceed 2" an hour at times due to lake enhancement. PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Town Hall Snowmobile Club Paradise MI >> Woke up to 4-5” of fresh snow in paradise. Did a nice 250 mile loop through Pine Stump road- Wolf Inn- Eagles Nest- Seney- Took 43 up to 8 and back to Grand Marias to Paradise. We skipped the Paradise side of 8 for the most part and everything we ran was great today. The new snow was just what the trails needed- another foot or two and off trail riding will begin! Looks like a groomer left the barn in Paradise- guessing he did the point loop 🤷♂️ as the trail into town was excellent. #paradise #newberry #snowphotosWoke up to 4-5” of fresh snow in paradise. It is a good thing you skipped 8! There is a large section scraped to the ground because of logging operations and it absolutely sucks.

Several sources are pointing to "impactful snow storms " in the next few days. Decision making time, thought we give her a try, 28⁰ and headed in the wrong direction, back to snow not agreeing with our needs very well, would if we in the snowman making business, wants to stick and not flow or cycle through the drag, 6 miles in, making her flat but if its not going to set up, it won't last at all.
Plenty of riding snow, just won't stay where we put it. Im going to flatten it out to the 498 intersection, and bring it back home for the night, I'll get right back in this thing as soon as the thermometer starts working with, rather than against us.
