Grand Marais Trail Report – 03/13

Here’s the scoop on the trails, despite the warm weather and rain, they are in Good to Very Good condition! I say good because of course there is some ice in spots but nothing major to be concerned with. The groomers were busy yesterday cutting down moguls and cleaning branches off the trails. They even made an extra run into town early in the day to smooth things up. We received several inches of light, fluffy snow yesterday and some blowing last night so expect to find drifts in the open areas that developed after the groomers went through. We’ll get those smoothed out tonight. There is still lots of riding and more snow is in the forecast through the weekend. Come on UP and enjoy one last blast!

Base: 36 or more inches

Snowfall Past 24 hours: 5 inches

Last Grooming: Yesterday and last night

Current Trail Conditions: Good to Excellent

Grand Marais Trail Report – 03/12

Well, it’s down to the low 20’s and Norm has released the groomers! They are headed out this morning to do the south, north and east route; they will do the west route this evening. We received a few inches of heavy, wet, slushy snow over the last two days but weren’t able to groom. Today, we are under a winter weather advisory calling for lake effect of 2 to 5′ which will top off the trails nicely. Marc and I went out to remove a tree on Trail 8 West on Sunday afternoon and were surprised how well the trails were holding up. We still have a lot of snow on the ground as you can see at this link. That means there’s still lots of riding to be had! President Mike and wife, Chris, went riding yesterday and had a blast riding the ungroomed trails. Come on UP and enjoy one last blast!
