Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 02/07

Greetings Sledders,

Trail conditions are about what I thought they might be with the limited snow and light recent traffic. I checked basically all of the crossings this morning and all are snow covered albeit thin. Had we gone out and panned the snow that we did get the trails would be even thinner and probably no better than a poor rating, right now I would continue to consider them rideable but fair overall. It’s difficult to upgrade to good without a real base and the only base that’s there is a result of sled traffic, as planned.

In the last report I indicated that I would publish the grooming schedule for the weekend, but I’ve changed my mind, just kidding.

We are going to groom this weekend with one objective in mind and that is to keep roughness caused by increased traffic in check. This is not a base building grooming exercise by any means and if there wasn’t a desire to get people the best possible ride that we can with the limited snow that we have to work with I wouldn’t be sending them out at all. After all this might be last weekend for awhile based on the weather forecasts that I’m looking at.

We’ve only picked up a dusting or two since last Saturday’s snowfall and dustings seem to be the new norm. I wonder how many dustings there are in an inch. Are those fluffy dustings or compressed ones.

Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 02/04

Greetings Sledders,

We’ve seen some improvement in conditions and as near as I can tell from the crossings I’d say we are at a solid fair South and I have to think maybe a tad better North.

We didn’t get enough snow to fire up the groomers yet. There are times when it’s better to let sled traffic lay down the snow and without getting into details, this is one of those times.

Depth of snow is only one driver of the decision to groom, the other is traffic which we will be watching throughout the week and we will likely groom this coming weekend as a result.

There isn’t much in the way of new snow in the forecast so what we’ve got is it for awhile. Go figure.

I will let you know what the grooming schedule is going to be later in the week but plan on Friday and Saturday nights as of right now

Ride Often and Please Be Safe,

Keith, Sandy and The Girls
