TRAIL REPORT February 20, 2022
HIGH TRAFFIC with GREAT TRAILS!
The new Lake Effect snow from last night was making for some great grooming results tonight. The trails which are in an overall very good condition. Definitely the busiest weekend of the season so trails are expected to get choppy throughout the day. Pretty much all trails are in the same condition. Thank you to everyone that stopped by for our open house yesterday, we really enjoyed the conversations. The U.P. 200 Sled Dog Race is still in progress so please see general warning below for details. Get out and enjoy some really nice riding conditions. MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails –
I was able to get out and groom tonight. Results were nothing short of great! South wind tonight will create drifting in areas with south exposure. Trail will get choppy later in the day with more high traffic this holiday weekend. I want to thank the staff at The Throttle in Little Lake. Murder burger was on point! They always take care of our operators with a free meal. Make sure you stop in when you are in the area. Businesses that support the trail are the backbone of the trail. Without them, your ride would be a lot less fun. (Nobody really wants to eat a PBJ that bounces around your tunnel bag for 200 miles….) Ride right and ride safe!

Michigan is going to showcase all seasons for today, March 26th, 2026. If you're heading north of M-55, a wintry mix will greet you. Snow totals of an inch, perhaps more will be possible, and a snow map will be out in a bit to showcase totals on a statewide basis. Meanwhile, summer is here temporarily as showers and storms move in by late afternoon south of Grand Rapids and Flint. High temperatures will be in the 60s, and even low-70s, especially south of I-94. More warmth means more fuel for storms though, so on a day like today, you should be rooting against warmer high temperatures to avoid severe weather. Speaking of temperatures, just an insane gradient from north to south. High temperatures in the low-20s for the Keweenaw Peninsula, while areas just south of the Michigan state line jump to near 80°F. Precipitation will start early up north, while southern Michigan doesn't start seeing shower activity until afternoon. More details to come in a bit on our severe weather, but the peak timing along and south of I-94 for severe weather will be after 3 pm EDT. Main severe weather hazard today will be very large hail, so it's probably a good idea to protect your valuables today if you're in the southern two rows of counties, just out of an abundance of caution. Bare with us today, it's a lot of information, but we've got you covered from beginning to end.

To be honest, it's almost copy and paste of Tuesday with snow passing by up north again, but today features warmer temperatures for almost the entire state. As you can see, high temperatures in the 50s and 60s will be on display for everyone minus the eastern UP and northern LP.... #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyWednesday, March 25th, 2026, is here. To be honest, it's almost copy and paste of Tuesday with snow passing by up north again, but today features warmer temperatures for almost the entire state. As you can see, high temperatures in the 50s and 60s will be on display for everyone minus the eastern UP and northern LP. Partly cloudy skies south, while mostly cloudy skies and some isolated snow showers pass by to the north. Snowfall accumulations will be light and brief. Cold spot of the day will be Sault Ste. Marie at 34°F, while the warm spot of the day will be near New Buffalo in Berrien County at 69°F. A 35° swing from north to south. Winds will be gusting between 15-25 mph primarily across the Lower Peninsula today, with a few gusts to 35 mph possible along Lake Michigan. Small craft, take note.

We are running minimal runs in order to keep the trail smooth and save the snow for the rest of the season. Trail is ice and is grooming out as such.
