TRAIL REPORT February 12, 2022
NEW SNOW – VERY GOOD TRAILS!
Moderate snow falling with high winds and the trail system in an overall very good condition. We have a Winter Storm coming through right now and grooming results have been better than expected. Expect to see drifting, especially in the Trail 418 AuTrain area. Get out and enjoy some really nice riding conditions. As far as equipment status the Big Deere is under repair and will hopefully be back to us next week. We are using the program’s spare Pisten Bully in its place for now. Keep doing the Cold Weather Snow Dancing and Stay Tuned for updates!

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails –
Steve went out in last night’s high wind and snow. He reports great conditions other than bad drifting in open areas prone to drifting. Understand that it is risky for operators to be out in bad weather with poor visibility. We leave our operators with the choice to pull off the trail and run the road back home or park the groomer until more favorable conditions are available. Thank groomer operators whenever you see them. Ride right, ride safe, and ride cautiously today to be able to ride tomorrow.

GWINN AREA UPDATE via Forsyth Snowmobile and ATV Club >> Trail update for Gwinn area, Central Upper Peninsula. Our town is in need of snow, took a ride East over towards Alger County and they definitely have more snow over that way. Buckhorn area was smooth all the way down south and across over to Big Springs area. Big Springs area north had some small rocks on the trail and once we got by the Jack Pine Trails were good again. Came through shingleton and quite the snow storm at 6:00 on Saturday evening. Unfortunately the snow didn't come to our town. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Lake effect snow showers will continue in the northwest wind snowbelts this morning and then begin to shift north and offshore this afternoon into the evening as winds become southwesterly. Additional snowfall of up to an inch in the west and 1 to 3 inches in the east can be expected. Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise.
