TRAIL REPORT Thursday, 12-24-2020
Alger SORVA wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and great time with Family and Friends. Good news – our trail grooming forecast is looking good with the Lake Effect machine finally starting up. Right now we are seeing the typical bands of snowfall moving across the area. This morning we staged all the equipment in and around the groomer building. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan - Snow will transition to light lake effect snow showers today near Lake Superior and diminish to a few lake effect snow showers on Sunday. Martin Luther King Day will be mostly cloudy with some more light snow showers developing as the next system approaches from west-to-east during the afternoon. MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA - TRAIL REPORT - Saturday, 1-16-2021 SPELL CAST ON OLD MAN WINTER! This is crazy, over 2 1/2 weeks of no measurable snow and it’s January. Overall Trails across our system remain Poor with dirty snow, bare spots and rocky patches. We had a light dusting of wet snow last night but Friday’s rain actually made conditions worse. The ground is still staying frozen though. Forecast is calling for rain/snow changing to snow but only an inch or so. The photograph is one of the best patches we found before Friday's rain. Please note the USDA crash site order is extended through September of 2021. For now Grooming Operations will remain on hold until we see a substantial amount of snowfall. While we wait the crew has continued doing upgrades on the club owned equipment and work around the shop. Please hope for the best, continue the snow dances and Stay Tuned for updates! Unless there’s a huge turnaround, this winter could be the last straw for me. Sell all but one of my five machines and just fully switch everything to dirt toys. I have way too much time and money wrapped up into these flipping sleds to get 4 to 6 weeks a year out of them. I try not to get pissed about things that are out of my control but what a joke.

But winter returns late tomorrow. By tomorrow evening, snow will be moving in.
