Munising Area Trail Report – 12/01
MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA – 12/01
Snowmobile Season Officially OPEN
Please ride with caution. Early season riding with water holes and wet areas.
We have the Bison and 6175 100% dialed with both drags freshly refurbished. We now have a 3rd groomer which came from a club (UP Central Trails) in the Marquette area who is getting out of the grooming business. We are now grooming trail 417 west of AuTrain to the Carp River in Marquette. This machine will be running out of the Brownstone. We do have a bridge out in Autrain. We will be grooming 418 in to Autrain at Forest Lake Rd. from the Brownstone. This will be a dead end spur for access in to Autrain. It is illegal to ride on M28 to get across the river. Please don’t do it. The detour around this bridge is trail 417 south from the Brownstone. Trail 8 to trail 7 North gets you in to Christmas / other side of the Autrain River Bridge. Trail 418 will be closed (not groomed) from trail 7 (z spot). Detour signs have been made and should be posted early this week. We will also be posting maps and details on FB. Miners Castle trail is closed and not groomed. Trail 419 Between Munising and Christmas we have some huge holes back in the swamp section (frog hollow). We just had a snowmobile ride it and we are going to have to wait a bit before we get the groomer back there.
Tomorrow the plan is to have both groomers out doing what we can. We have spotters going out and riding our trail system in the morning. We will be opening the gates to the swamp in Shingleton Bridge by the Bears Den. The Gates will also be opened on trail 417 towards Marquette.
We have significant differences in snow across our trail system. The Lake Effect bands have not pushed very far South. South by the Buckhorn we maybe have 6 inches on the ground. Shingleton has 1.5 to 2 feet of snow. Further North towards the Bear Trap has even more. We will know more tomorrow after the spotters get out there and report in. It looks like we are off to a good start. Be safe out there!
