Munising Area Trail Report – 03/08

TRAIL REPORT: 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 8

Temp 41 degrees with rain on the way and temp rising to the upper 40’s through the night. Grooming operations have been suspended. We will be watching temps closely, hoping they drop later in the week for a trail salvage operation.

With the wind trails are coming apart quickly. As of this morning the main trails are still in overall good condition. The trails in the hills around Munising are overall fair to good in some areas.

* Trail 8 is in good condition. Soft sugary snow but mainly flat with moguls starting near the East end.
* Trail 419 from Trail 8 North all the way to Christmas it is fair with wet corners and some moguls. West Bay Spur is good.
*Trail 7 from Christmas South to South to the Trail 8 intersection is fair, wet corners and some moguls.
*Trail 422 to Miner’s Castle is fair to good, again wet corners and some moguls.
*Trail 7 South to CR440 is good to fair as you head South with moguls.

Munising Area Trail Report – 03/07

TRAIL REPORT: 6:00 a.m. Monday, March 7
Temp 35 degrees, with a sunny 46 degrees forecast

Overall the main trails are still in great condition. The trails in the hills around Munising are overall fair to good.

* Trail 8 is in great condition. (soft sugary snow but flat)
* Trail 419 from Trail 8 North into Wetmore is fair to good.
From Wetmore to Christmas it goes from fair to good after the first few miles West of Munising. West Bay Spur is good.
*Trail 7 from Christmas South to Ridge Road is fair.
The remainder of Trail 7 South to the Trail 8 intersection is fair to good.
*Trail 422 to Miner’s Castle is good.
*Trail 7 South to CR440 is good to fair as you head South.

We have 50 with rain forecast for Tuesday then temps are dropping back down later in the week. Hopefully we can salvage most of the trail system after this rainy warm spell. If we are lucky we may still have another good snowfall before the season closes out.
