NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association – 12/17
Hi everyone. If temps allow we are going to send a groomer North to pinestump tonight. On my drive in this morning there was still a good amount of snow on the trail right along 123 by the logging museum. Thats a good sign that the rest of the trail should be ok as the snow typically gets deeper as you go north. Temps are going to be cooling off the rest of the week as well. In the mean time enjoy this amazing picture of our friends up in Houghton at the Portage lift bridge.

Trail Update 12/17/24
Well we made it through the warm up. We still have a good snowpack in our driveway which is a great sign. Both TASA and Seney groomers are going to go out tonight if the temps cooperate. Judging by the looks of trail 9 along 123 I think we are in good shape still.
There was still good snow along the road side and up 9 heading to 455 as far ar I could see. Snow is in the forcast the next few nights with a possibility of 6+ inches. Dont cancel those reservations for this weekend and if you havent booked with us yet we still have openings.
It’s going to be a bit more like early season riding then last week but you will still find plenty of snow.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> A mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain is expected across northern Michigan late Tuesday through Wednesday. Highest snowfall totals are anticipated across the eastern U.P. while best chances for icing will come south of the bridge, especially between M-32 and M-55. However, things quickly take a turn as a winter storm heads towards the region. This kicks off an initial batch of light snow late tonight, persisting into Tuesday morning. A brief break Tuesday afternoon will be followed by more light to moderate snow Tuesday evening through Wednesday. 44 degrees this morning under a mostly clear sky. It was sunny and 54 here yesterday and its supposed to be about the same today. We have not run the last couple of days and I can only imagine what our low land trails look like. It is supposed to cool off by the middle of the week and maybe snow a couple inches so I haven`t given up hope. We still have plenty of snow in da woods but the roads are bare around town and the dirt roads we use for trail connecters are all mud. We are having a meeting today and discuss a plan. Just wanted to jump on here and let ya`ll know whats U.P. Stay tuned.

Unfortunately, for our warm-weather enjoyers up north, this forecast is not for you.
Snow is likely today, March 7th, 2026 on the backside of the low pressure system moving through, while parts of southern Michigan reach the mid-60s today. Most of the snow will fall along the spine of the western Upper Peninsula, where 2-5" of fresh snow is possible in the cornflower blue coloring. 1-3" of snow also possible in nearby Baraga and western Marquette county. A trace to 1" is possible for all areas in white, but most of these areas won't see more than a couple flurries mixed in with light freezing drizzle. Snow should be done by 10 pm EST across the Upper Peninsula.
The rest of the state will be dealing with temperatures in the 40s to 60s with showers and thunderstorms, clearing by late evening. This will set the stage for a mostly sunny Sunday ahead. 34 degrees this morning with a light rain. I heard it raining most of the night too. My weather station lost signal so I don`t know how much rain we got but I can say enough. It looks like its gonna be on the warm side for the next couple days then cool off and maybe snow so its not over yet folks!!! Here`s what went on yesterday and whats gonna happen today on the trails......
The only trail we hit yesterday was trail #45 to the Falls. Groomer Patrick said it turned out good. Just talked to Da Boss and we decided we are gonna take the next couple days off and see what this weather does. The rain last night really put a damper on our plans. It looks like its gonna hit close to 50 tomorrow too. The good news is we still have a solid 2` on the ground so if we can get by the next few days we`ll still be good. It ain`t over till its over and we`ll keep going till it is!!!!
