Newberry Area Trail Report – 02/06
NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Halfway Lake Cottages, LLC >> 02/06
Trail Update 02/06/2025
Currently it’s 22 degrees and we are under a winter weather advisory. Up to 6 inches expected. It’s been a very snow couple of weeks. Since the 19th of Janurary we have picked up north of 30 inches of snow. Our total for the year is already around 170 inches.
TASA has been grooming nightly. Last night trails 9 to Holland Lake staging area and 45 to the falls have booth been groomed. There is still some logging going on 45 as you get closer to the falls. Like normal the trail that runs the sides of 123 as you go into town is moguled out.
Paradise has been grooming all of their trails including 8 south heading tword Brimly. There still are reports of some open water in the swamp so be careful.
Some of the best news is that Curtis area trails have gotten enough snow to be grooming. Reports are good in that area.
This has been the first year in the last couple where you can pick a direction and go without to much concern. Local businesses needed it so be sure to get up here and do your best to support.
Until the next report ride safe.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Widespread snow will begin to spread west to east this morning while a heavier snowband looks to set up in the central UP this afternoon. Uncertainty still remains where this snowband will park, however, heavy snowfall rates will likely create difficult travel along US-41 from Delta to Marquette/Alger counties. Tonight, widespread snow transitions to lake effect snow for the north wind snowbelts.

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump >> 1-9-26
Made the 30s yesterday. Some rain in the night but it’s still winter!
Already getting the calls if we lost all our snow. Had someone say he decided to go somewhere else this weekend. I told him why are you calling me asking about the snow then if you’re not even coming here.
I love talking to people but I don’t have time to answer 100 phone calls a day asking how the trails are here and how they are in the soo munising etc . I try to post on here with photos and videos so people can see what it’s like.
Plenty of snow with snow in the forecast. I think a lot of people will be up this weekend. If nobody comes I’ll go out and enjoy all this snow myself i guess
Hope to see everyone this weekend #newberry #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders www.paradiseareanightriders.org >> 1/9/26
I crawled outa bed at 6:30 this morning to 38 degrees and rain.....this sucks. It is now 8 am and still raining but the temp went down to 34. I heard it raining all night and my weather station has recorded just over an inch.....this really sucks!!! It is supposed to cool down and turn to snow later this morning and get really windy and that will blow in a cold front, then snow some more Saturday afternoon. I`m sounding like a weather guesser ain`t I ? We do still have a couple foot of snow on the ground tho. Nuff on the sucky weather, lets get to the trails, which this is supposed to be about.....
We didn`t groom anything yesterday cause of the weather. We hit the Stump trail, the Point trails and trail #8 south all last Wednesday and they all turned out good. We are not gonna run anything today cause of the weather again but figure on runnin all high ground trails Saturday. After Saturday we will try and figure out what to do with the low ground trails. It looks like the weather is supposed to turn around closer to normal by Sunday.....we`ll see. Bout all I got for now. Come on Mother Nature.....get yer a$$ back in gear!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and get cold again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WEATHER UPDATE via Pictured Rocks Marine Weather Conditions >> OK, here's the latest! Shown below is the expected 24-hour snowfall accumulation from 7pm today through 7pm Friday, along with the 24-hour snowfall from 7am Saturday through 7am Sunday. The 12-hour "gap" in between those two periods is the lull between the two waves of snow, when not much is expected to happen. And the snowmelt from the warm spell today should largely have ceased by then. More snow is also expected after 7am on Sunday and even into Monday, but it's a bit too early to call the snow amounts for that time period. Winter will not succumb to our brief warm spell! #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskey ... GRAND MARAIS AREA UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. >> What It Means to Be a Groomer for the Grand Marais Sno-Trails Association
Being a groomer is more than a job—it’s a commitment to community, safety, and the love of snowmobiling.
Our groomers are compensated at $2 per mile groomed, but the reality behind that number tells a much bigger story. Depending on the trail, a single grooming route can take 8 to 10 hours to complete. That time can vary due to necessary stops—clearing debris, addressing unexpected issues, carefully exiting the groomer when needed, and slowing or stopping entirely as snowmobilers pass by.
Grooming equipment moves at a steady 7 to 11 miles per hour, requiring patience, focus, and long hours in often challenging conditions.
While this is technically a paid position, our groomers do this work for something far more meaningful: their love of the sport and their dedication to our community. They balance grooming with full-time jobs, families, and personal commitments—choosing to sacrifice their time so the Crazy 8’s trails remain safe, rideable, and enjoyable for all of us.
Today, let’s take a moment to truly thank our groomers for the countless unseen hours they put in behind the scenes. ❄️ #grandmarais #newberry #snowphotosWhat It Means to Be a Groomer for the Grand Marais Sno-Trails Association
