Newberry Area Trail Report – 02/17

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association >> 02/17

So, anyone been in or outta Newberry trail 9 in a while? 😂

Glad it wasn’t me!

It’s fixed, 1 4 place trailer in the Timber Charlie’s parking lot there, past 26 heading in before I got to the trail head on 446!
Busier Sunday than it was Friday so far.

Made it to 498, if that wasn’t the ugliest I’ve ever seen it, it was a tie.

But of course it’s not now 😊

12 miles in to a 98 mile run, LOTS of work to do, if you’re coming or going you’ll have a smooth ride, ill make it pretty on the way back.

WINDY CORNERS? PRETTY.

11:00 So Everthing north out of Newberry and Windy Corners has been groomed once, Windy Corners in and out, supposed to get down in the try and not die before they get here if I break down range, so it should have a good 8 hours being lonely and setting up, and in a few hours I’ll return to shave the top, pack a little more and make it pretty 😊

Gotta go.
11:53 So much for unmolested 😂

12:45, Seney Crew been and gone as expected, you could pretty much set your clock there.

Still pretty rough north of 498, see how it goes from here north.
Been snowing like this pretty much since I left Pine Stump, pretty sure I’m still doing a petty good job,,,keep hearing about all these below Temps all around me, un sruck the wipers twice now,.

GRAND MARAIS AREA UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. >> What It Means to Be a Groomer for the Grand Marais Sno-Trails Association
Being a groomer is more than a job—it’s a commitment to community, safety, and the love of snowmobiling.
Our groomers are compensated at $2 per mile groomed, but the reality behind that number tells a much bigger story. Depending on the trail, a single grooming route can take 8 to 10 hours to complete. That time can vary due to necessary stops—clearing debris, addressing unexpected issues, carefully exiting the groomer when needed, and slowing or stopping entirely as snowmobilers pass by.
Grooming equipment moves at a steady 7 to 11 miles per hour, requiring patience, focus, and long hours in often challenging conditions.
While this is technically a paid position, our groomers do this work for something far more meaningful: their love of the sport and their dedication to our community. They balance grooming with full-time jobs, families, and personal commitments—choosing to sacrifice their time so the Crazy 8’s trails remain safe, rideable, and enjoyable for all of us.
Today, let’s take a moment to truly thank our groomers for the countless unseen hours they put in behind the scenes. ❄️ #grandmarais #newberry #snowphotosWhat It Means to Be a Groomer for the Grand Marais Sno-Trails Association

30 degrees again this morning with a light freezing fog/drizzle going on. The weather guessers are saying it will turn around to back to normal by Saturday or Sunday....lets hope they are right!!! Here`s whats been going on with the trails.....
We worked ALL DAY yesterday on the Falls trail #45 from town to the lower falls. Groomer Keith made some progress but it is still impassable at this time. We are gonna have to wait for the temps to cool down before we can get back in there. Same as the swamp south of town.
Today, Groomer Mike H. is gonna run the Point trails #452 & #453. They are in good shape. Groomer Keith is gonna hit the Pine Stump trail #8. This trail is in good shape also except for where the loggers have it plowed down. I am hittin trail #8 south. This trail is also in good shape except for a couple of small water holes and I`ll work on them. This will probably do it until the temps cool off.
