Newberry Area Trail Report – 03/01

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association >> 03/01

Feel a little more alone in this weather 😊

Im and out of Windy Corner, they will be glad we came,.

All in all once you’re out of Newberry the trail continues to improve as I go, a ribben is pretty evasive with this snow texture but it’s laying out flat pretty nicely .

All right, so I opened my big mouth, turned to go north head to Pine Stump, this trail is Trash! It’s Rib Bone Non Stop!

Craters in corners and a base plug full of holes! 2" of new snow isn’t really helping, making it much better but far from proud.
4:44 THAT WAS A CHORE!

Snow is just not cooperating at all.

Holland Lake, and Grand Marais has been through.

Head it back see what I can do.

8:28 It’s nice, turned out pretty nice.

Back to 415, about 3" last night, still great riding out here!

GRAND MARAIS AREA UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. >> What It Means to Be a Groomer for the Grand Marais Sno-Trails Association
Being a groomer is more than a job—it’s a commitment to community, safety, and the love of snowmobiling.
Our groomers are compensated at $2 per mile groomed, but the reality behind that number tells a much bigger story. Depending on the trail, a single grooming route can take 8 to 10 hours to complete. That time can vary due to necessary stops—clearing debris, addressing unexpected issues, carefully exiting the groomer when needed, and slowing or stopping entirely as snowmobilers pass by.
Grooming equipment moves at a steady 7 to 11 miles per hour, requiring patience, focus, and long hours in often challenging conditions.
While this is technically a paid position, our groomers do this work for something far more meaningful: their love of the sport and their dedication to our community. They balance grooming with full-time jobs, families, and personal commitments—choosing to sacrifice their time so the Crazy 8’s trails remain safe, rideable, and enjoyable for all of us.
Today, let’s take a moment to truly thank our groomers for the countless unseen hours they put in behind the scenes. ❄️ #grandmarais #newberry #snowphotosWhat It Means to Be a Groomer for the Grand Marais Sno-Trails Association

30 degrees again this morning with a light freezing fog/drizzle going on. The weather guessers are saying it will turn around to back to normal by Saturday or Sunday....lets hope they are right!!! Here`s whats been going on with the trails.....
We worked ALL DAY yesterday on the Falls trail #45 from town to the lower falls. Groomer Keith made some progress but it is still impassable at this time. We are gonna have to wait for the temps to cool down before we can get back in there. Same as the swamp south of town.
Today, Groomer Mike H. is gonna run the Point trails #452 & #453. They are in good shape. Groomer Keith is gonna hit the Pine Stump trail #8. This trail is in good shape also except for where the loggers have it plowed down. I am hittin trail #8 south. This trail is also in good shape except for a couple of small water holes and I`ll work on them. This will probably do it until the temps cool off.
Keep checking back.....I`ll keep you informed

30 degrees this morning and cloudy. Been a touch on the warm side the last couple days and it looks like it will stay that way till the weekend. Doesn`t help us much....especially in our wet areas! We cannot open the gates on the Falls trail #45 yet and our infamous swamp south of town is nasty and those gates remain closed. Further south of town we had a spot open up more on the power line and in the Federal forest section of trail #8 we had a big spot open up. You can get by these spots but you have to be careful. The rest of trail #8 south is beautiful! We ran the Point trails #452 & #453 yesterday and they turned out great. We also ran the Stump trail #8 and thats all good except where the loggers have it plowed down.
Sorry I haven`t been on here much but we`ve been very busy trying to get the trails in shape. We`ll keep at it but the weather hasn`t been too much help! Keep checking back and I`ll try to keep ya`ll updated. The weather looks like it will change back to normal by next week. We should be able to hold on but the wet areas will be a problem.
LET `ER SNOW...............and get cold again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump >> 02/27

I keep seeing all the posts about springs here and the snows all gone. Dont put your snowmobiles away yet ladies and gentlemen!
I went for a little spin this morning to see how things help up to our few warm days

There is a lot of snow on the trails still. The groomers weren’t out yesterday so the trails are bumpy. I’ve seen them a lot bumpier. I would guess the clubs will all be out tonight it’s supposed to get cold

The videos are of trail 9 going north of pine stump towards trail 8, trail 8, and trail 9. The trail going north towards trail 8 is the best it’s been in years! 8 has plenty of snow and was bumpy but not terrible . Trail 9 going south has plenty of snow but was bumpier than trail 8 for sure. They should all get groomed up nice tonight and be ready for a good weekend!

We are getting into early spring conditions. Towns will probably be a little challenging.

We have a bunch of parking out back for anyone that needs it. Then you’re in the good snow!

This weekend should be good and next weekend as well.

We are prepping for the vintage show on the 15th. The first half of March should be good and I bet you can ride until the end of the month unless something crazy happens!

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association >> Anyone happen to notice this limb on 9?
Just so you know, we're out here taking care of you ☺️
So decided to also just go ahead and drag my way out here seeing if I could improve as long as I was going and so far, we've really not been needed! It's SWEET out here!"
Anyway, gotta get busy, keep ya posted. #newberry #snowphotos

Spent most of the day yesterday picking branches off the trail. That one would've been a bit larger than I could have handled. Thanks for the great work so far this year!

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders www.paradiseareanightriders.org >> 1/6/26
