Newberry Trail Report – 12/11

Snowmobile trails are officially open and we have 3 to 10 inches of snow the farther north you travel. We are not grooming due to the wet areas that are not frozen and not enough snow.
North Trail #9 There is about 5 to 12 inches of snow on the ground but the gates in Newberry are still closed.
Trail #45 The gates are still closed on this trail and we have a several wet areas that need to freeze before we are going to be able to groom. I do not recommend riding this trail until we receive more snow and start grooming.
South Trail #9/2 This trail has to 3 to 5 inches of snow on the ground.

WEATHER UPDATE via Pictured Rocks Marine Weather Conditions >> Here are a couple probability maps for the snow and ice potential through the full duration of this upcoming spring storm (through 8am on Tuesday). It’s not often that we get to show 90% probabilities of getting 1.5 feet of snow, but that will be the case for much of our region. And the potential for significant icing has started to inch more into the far eastern UP, so we’ll need to keep an eye on that as well. I’ll provide some final updates tomorrow morning before the first impacts start to roll in. Snowfall amounts between 1 to 3 feet could be near 2-day records in some areas. Strong winds and heavy snowfall rates likely result in blizzard conditions.
