FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 03/27
Winter roller coaster, up and down to incredible heights. Started out sunday morning on another great ride with the snow that hit us on saturday, We started out in Grayling yesterday morning and headed out to Lovells. Really great snow but by the time we came back into Frederic about 1 things were heading downhill fast like a ice slushy cone on the hot pavement. Still all in all a great 2 days of riding with about 70 miles each day. Had several messages from people who got in good rides too. Reports of people seeing both the Lewiston & Gaylord groomers. Only 4 days left to this sled season and I have to say I had way more fun riding on saturday and sunday instead of sitting inside Sledheads waiting for customers and watching them have fun while I work. My brother and Tim & Vance are heading out to try it one more time today. I am good with the riding I got in. By the time I left Sledheads at about 4 yesterday my parking lot was almost all dirt again. Didnt last long but while it was here it was great. Pics below are all from sundays ride….. A major winter storm is expected to bring significant snowfall to portions of the region. Most of the accumulating snow will be along and north of I-80. No matter how much snow will fall, there will be strong northwest winds that will create blowing and drifting snow. Travel north of I-80 will be near impossible at times. Some road closures are possible along and north of I-90 given greater accumulation and more persistent blizzard-like conditions. Heaviest snowfall totals through sunrise Tuesday (there will be more after) will be along Lake Superior. Snowfall rates could exceed 2" an hour at times due to lake enhancement. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Frederic is a cloudy ghost town so far this saturday morning. No one around and 31 degrees. Surprisingly we had about an inch and a half of pebbly sleet/snow yesterday. I only saw 2 groups of 3 sleds and one group of 2 all day yesterday. 3 of those sleds are pictured below and they were the only ones yesterday. Looks like we might get some snow the beginning of the week. The riders from yesterday were happy to be out but its hard out there. I met a youngster in town this morning from St Henry Ohio who is a regular rider. I didnt get his name. but its great to see young people wanting to ride. The best chances for heavy snow will be across the Upper Peninsula, and the snow belts of lower Michigan. Rain will likely mix in for portions of lower Michigan during the day on Sunday before transitioning to snow during the Sunday night into Monday time frame. GM, Chrysler, & Ford would all be closed up and thousands would flock north for winter break and fun in the snow. Well fast forward from that 30 years ago and its pretty darn lonely here now. Sleet coming down this morning and a marginal amount of snow. It used to be so much different with snow in Frederic compared to Grayling. Forcast isnt looking great for this week either. I did see a few sleds out on Christmas eve day and the pic below of the 3 of them over at the swamp. Nothing so far today and its 11 a..m and 29 degrees.
