Happy New Year, actually not to happy for snowmobilers. We do have about 1 inch on the ground right now but its not anything to ride on. The wait continues and my gut feeling is still it will be around the 25th when we get rideable snow. I certainly dont like saying that. Its was deadsville around Frederic on saturday and sunday. Not even many side bys out. So the wait continues. Went to the Frederic Inn for prime rib last night and at 8 oclock we were the last people in there. Then over to the Swamp for a little karaoke but still made it home by 10:30. So thats the opening for the new year. Thanks for checking in. Pete

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain later Thursday night through Friday. The highest snow accumulations will be across the eastern UP, with 2 to 5 inches of snow possible. The potential exists for up to 0.10” of ice south of M-72. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE >> Merry Christmas Eve day. To bad the sun is out and going to melt more of our snow today. It made it up to 43 yesterday and we lost alot. I saw a few sleds across the street and heard one brapp yesterday. Very quiet out there this morning and its not looking like we will get any snow until about New Years which is not what we want to see. Even Grayling was like a ghost town when I drove thru town this morning. Pics below are from a the long lost tribe of Frederican Mohicans gathering and chanting MO MO NAH CHEE CHEE NAH in hopes of some fresh snow. I ran into them last night. WEATHER UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> I'm going up north to the U.P of Michigan on Friday to chase a potentially significant lake effect snow event from late Saturday night through Tuesday. Snowfall accumulations could be 1-2', if not higher, as high-res model guidance comes in when we get closer.

Temperatures are slow-going to rise, then suddenly as we reach the afternoon hours, temperatures snap into the mid-40's for much of the state. Many locations close to the MI/OH border may surpass 50°F. Further north, mid-30's are likely. Sunshine will be noticeable out there today, as partly cloudy skies are the main icon. Winds will increase beyond noon as well, gusting between 20-30 mph for most, with some isolated spots in northeast Michigan, and along Lake Superior gusting 30-40 mph. Winds will be out of the west, and more details on the wind will be posted next. A light round of mixed precipitation is possible overnight into Wednesday for the Sault Ste. Marie region.

JORDAN VALLEY AREA UPDATE via Jordan Valley Trails Council >> Groomers ran north and south today, unfortunately neither operator had much good to report. The extended warm up from last week has taken a drastic toll on the trails. North of Elmira the trails were really thin today. The trails south of Alba are thin but flat and rideable as of now.
The rest of this week is expected to be cold but very little to no snow with high 30’s on Saturday. The end of next week is predicted to have high 30’s with some freezing rain.

FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE >> Its a quiet monday morning. I have seen 2 sleds go by but there was no new snow overnight.
Forcast is not favorable for later this week but I am sure there will be some sleds out and about as people
just do not want to wait. Hoping it will kick in but thats the best we can do. Its still nice and white out even though we lost alot of snow.
