Paradise Area Trail Report – 01/31

1/31/24

31 degrees this morning and cloudy. I haven`t seen a below freezing temp when I get up in the morning in a week! I haven`t been on here lately cause I don`t have anything positive to report and I`ve been accused of being too negative (I`m just reporting the ugly truth) but I have been gettin a few calls asking me whats UP….so here it is….

For a good week now we have had temps up into the 30`s and a couple days at 40. The temps at night have hung at or above freezing. Sadly, or trail system is pretty much dirt. I have seen some reports that some riders are finding a little snow off trail on the back roads and such but my job is to report on the groomed trails……and they are junk!!

Obviously our groomers are parked. It looks like this rotten weather pattern will last until the middle of February. Hopefully after that we will get hammered well into March and we can salvage the rest of the season. I WILL let ya`ll know as soon as this happens UP here, but for now I`ll just hope and pray for snow.

Don`t lose hope, it will come. LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Groomer Chris

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Town Hall Snowmobile Club Paradise MI >> Paradise to Seney today was excellent- We took “alternate” routes and boondocks to and from Pine Stump but I’m sure the paradise trails were fair despite the fact they are not being maintained at the present time. Massive drifts coming back and white out conditions made for a blast. Chics Hot Dog Stand 8 and 452 Paradiseprovided the Hot chocolate on the way out. Ended the evening at Wheelhouse Diner & Goat Locker Saloon back in Paradise. TASA, Grand Marias, and Seney operations have their trails dialed in beautifully- Andy’s Bar in Seney has the burger!! All areas received several inches of fresh snow today and it’s still coming down hard at 11pm. #paradise #newberry #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less

Thanks for the report! What’s going on up in paradise? We are planning our first UP trip next Friday staying there. Are their trails rideable or should we go elsewhere? Thx.

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.
Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Not too impactful of a system in terms of Michigander standards, but do take it slow if you encounter any snow squalls and/or visibly slick roads. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyHere is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Town Hall Snowmobile Club Paradise MI >> Paradise - Grand Marais-Pine Stump- lots of boondocking and two tracks.. Trails are brutally “hard” after the refreeze. Some sections got a few inches of fresh snow today which made for good but most were very “chattery” with engine temps constantly elevating. We stayed mostly off the trails where possible as the two tracks were excellent! If you are the kind that cares about hyfax and carbides- conditions aren’t for you but plenty of fun to be had. #paradise #newberry #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less

Very pleased with what we're finding so far, lost some base, knew that, 10 miles out, 2 groups of 6 sleds from behind leaving town.
Squishing any water into the in the low spots into the snow, cool if you can go around and let them freeze up smooth, but now major damage at all and its been snowing since I left town. #newberry #snowphotos

FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 01/30

I’m Melting. It still looks like its gonna be a long while till we get back to riding if at all. When I opened my door at home this morning the first thing I heard was dripping water off the roof. Still alot of white if you look into the woods but the trails are pretty ugly. I wish I had better things to say but we are toast for now. I was closed this past weekend and if I find something more fun to do that be here I might be closed again. I hope they can pull off the I 500 in the Soo this weekend and I will be here bright and early tommorow morning to watch the Wertz Warrior ride pull into the Swamp. That should be interesting. Somewhere in my travels on monday the Wertz Warriors semi trucks passed me. They are supposed to be pulling into Frederic between 9 and 10 tommorow morning. I wll do a video and pics from there. I cant believe that they will have any sleds riding but time will tell. Weather on t.v. just said above average temps for the next 7 days. Its now tuesday about noon as I type this.Trail crossing pics are from this morning.
