Update 1/25
I’m sure it’s not any surprise that things are rapidly deteriorating on the trails. It’s currently 35.
The trails that we were able to groom 2 nights ago (part of 8, all of 889, and most of 480) will last the longest. If it gets below freezing tonight, we’ll attempt to fix the giant ruts on 889 from the guy in the black GMC hauling an open deck trailer last night (thanks again 🤬), but other than that, we are on hold until the cold and snow return.
The Soo city trails remain thin, bumpy, and just really poor.
49 south of the Soo to Kinross is closed
8 from the Soo to Brimley has dirt and lots of exposed rocks.
49 south of m80 in kinross and 494 behind the airport in Kinross are fair
472 west from Kinross to 480 is down to dirt in many places.
The only fair to good sections are the ones mentioned first in the Bay Mills/Raco area. (Part of 8, 889, and most of 480)

Still lots to do and see in the area.
With I-500 race week kicking off this weekend, it’s going to be an awesome and exciting time to be in the Soo! You can easily take day trips to Tahquamenon Falls, Kitch-iti-Kipi, Whitefish Point, check out Point Iroquois lighthouse in Brimley, play at 2 area casinos, explore many hiking/snowshoe trails, go fishing, and support so many of our local businesses that are missing the normal winter guests.
There’s no such thing as a bad day in the Yoop!
We’ll keep you all posted, and hope to meet many of you on Saturday, 2/3 at the International 500 Snowmobile Race! It’s going to be a great time! 🏁🏁🏁

A couple of our volunteers, Lane and Dennis, made it out for an 180 mile ride from the Pickford area all the way to Cut River and places in between today, even up trail 49 from Kinross!
They definitely encountered some low hanging branches, but no major downed trees and they were surprised how well the trails have held up!
Love to see our hard working volunteers out enjoying themselves on this last official day of an amazing season!

Last day of the official season, and oh what a season it has been!
We did see significant icing last night, followed by about 2” of snow. I’m sure the trails are icy under the snow. It looks like areas to our northwest such as Paradise and Pine Stump got mostly snow. I would imagine that there are low hanging and broken branches and downed trees in spots, but we were very fortunate based on what I have seen in the Gaylord and Alpena areas.
Please keep your eye on those clubs pages. They may need some assistance in the coming weeks. I’ll share if I hear of anything.
We got very lucky here. If you’re out and about getting those last rides in, please be safe!
Remember, trails on public lands do not close, but will not be groomed. After today, please be mindful of where you are riding to be sure you are not trespassing. We will get gates closed as soon as we can on private property.
