Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/30

Happy New Year. Snow in the forecast and typical temps thru the weekend should keep things in good shape. Sticking with overall conditions as Fair to Good – this depends where you’re riding…you will find some trails better than good, some worse.
In case you missed it, we’ll repeat our "INFO UPDATE" regarding Gas in Marenisco: While the Marenisco Gas Station on Trail 2 is closed, there is Gas available at Bam Bam’s Bar & Grill.
All the groomers are out working to keep the trails in as good shape as possible-
Gogebic Range Trail Authority: 11S is now open – you’ll find it a little brushy is some areas but they’re continuing to work on it. Trails 2-8 and 160 are all snow covered and freshly groomed…11N is still not groomed-the swampy area hasn’t frozen up so they are now packing snow in that area to get it groomable which they will do ASAP.
From the Lake Gogebic Area-the groomers are out on all trails…so everything is freshly groomed. Heads Up: You may encounter Logging Trucks at the junction of 102 AND 8 W-pull over if you do.

From Watersmeet groomers reporting all trails are being groomed daily and Good conditions.

It’s time for our usual caution about ice: There is no such thing as "safe ice" due to underwater currents. If you plan to go out, be sure you talk to locals where you intend to ride for information about the ice depth and other factors…be aware you will be riding at your own risk.
And one more safety note… groomers can and will be out any time of the day or night, especially this week…so PLEASE pull over when you see them.
We want you to have a great time…and to stay safe.

Check out web cams throughout the area to see the snow amounts for yourself. Find links on our website at westernup.info

TASA – December 30, 2009 1:40 P.M.

All the members of TASA hope you have a safe and happy holiday North of town we ended up with about 10 more inches yesterday and things are looking great with more snow expected this holiday weekend.

Trail #9 south to Hemlock Ridge road (trail 2) has a 1 -3 inch base and is in good condition.

Trail #9 north is in very good condition. Riders are reporting great conditions and alot of snow on the ground.

Trail #45 North is in good shape with a 4-6 inch base, but, there are 2 logging areas on it. One north, and one south, of the Skyline Trail Head. It is plowed and can be rough at times

Trail #2 to Rexton is in fair condition with a marginal base.

Trail #473 has about 7 miles of plowed road from Rexton south to Epoufette due to logging in the area. Please watch for trucks and deer in the area. The base is marginal to 3 inches and in fair condition.

Trail #473 Rexton to Trout lake is being groomed today to the power lines, When I get a report from the groomer I will update. We still cannot get through the marsh, under the power lines to get through to Trout Lake.
Town trails are open and in good condition with a 2 – 4 inch base.

*Please remember our groomers are out daily to keep the trails in the best shape they can be for your riding pleasure. Please keep a safe distance from the groomer if possible.*
We have updated the Newberry Village trail map. There are just a couple of changes from the last map.

THINK MORE SNOW!!!
