Cadillac Area Trail Report – Cadillac Trails – 03/11

Friday, March 11, 2011
Snow Accumulation: 7 inches*

It’s still very much winter here. Although daytime temperatures hover at freezing or above and often quite sunny, the trails remain in amazing shape. The groomers are out today. I received a report from the groomer on the White Pine that it is holding up very well. He reports 90 percent of it is excellent and 10 percent is gone. The groomer who did the Pine River/Bristol run yesterday reported he was amazed at how much snow and ice there is in the forest yet. The snow should hang around for a while with that ice base supporting it. Yes, there is still good riding on the Cadillac trails. Come on up!

Snow Accumulation: 7.5 inches

We picked up about 3 inches of snow yesterday so that should extend our riding season in the forest for a few more days. We’re doing limited grooming depending on traffic and snow conditions.

For forest access to our trail system, use the following Staging Areas:

Cadillac West Area: 33 Rd, 27 Rd (both off M55 W)

Caberfae Area: 13 Rd (off W M55)

Boon: By Boon Grocery

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Today will be an interesting day. We just picked up a !/2 inch of snow in the last hour. There is snow, sleet and rain forecasted for today. It snowing pretty heavy right now and we’re hoping it stays that way.

I just received a trail update from Al Green our Trail Coordinator. It follows: "All 3 of the groomers have been going out approx. every other day. The 7920 went west on the Tunnel on Monday am, the 6430 went out Sunday (north) and yesterday (south), the 8120 went out Sunday night to the Pine River and Bristol.

All of the drivers are reporting the trails are great where there is snow/ice, or bare dirt. They say about 80 percent of the trails on the forest roads are perfect. The sun and warm temps on Monday and Tuesday afternoons put a major hurt to the system. Todays cooler temps. and clouds will hold what we have. If this system stays as snow and does NOT change to rain, there could be some more great riding for a few more days."
