Cadillac Area Trail Report – 03/09

The warm temperatures are taking a toll on the White Pine and in-town trail but the forest trails remain in good shape. The trail coordinator just emailed me and told me ‘The trails are smooth.’ Who doesn’t like to hear that! There is still lots of snow and an ice base under the snow. This afternoon we checked out the 33 Rd Staging Area and found 14 vehicles and trailers. That means there are still plenty of folks riding yet.

To better access the forest trails, you’ll want to use one of the Staging Areas mentioned in the previous posting (see below).

There’s still some good riding in the forest but it would be a good idea to plan on starting from one of the following staging areas:

33 Rd Staging Area–S of M-55–approx.. 3 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Caberfae Staging Area–approx.. 12 miles west of Cadillac on M-55 (watch for signs)

Boon Staging Area–park in plowed area south of Boon Grocery

Our groomers are out there every day as long as temperature and snow conditions permit. Keep in mind the drags don’t work when temperatures get much above freezing. That’s also the time when trail conditions deteriorate quickly.

There isn’t much if any snow in the immediate forecast for us. It’s March though–anything can happen.

Gaylord Area Trail Report – Ray’s Retreat Country Inn – 03/09

The trail has held up fairly well this week. It did turn colder Wed night … grooming has been on schedule all week. Which has given everyone a good ride. There are areas along roadways/crossing roadways that are soft and/or wet as it gets later in the day. Those that rode yesterday declared it great riding. Everyone I talked to had went at least 100 miles. They were not disappointed with the conditions. The trail itself was smooth.

Today’s temp is supposed to rise into high 30’s. Tomorrow rain arrives. Then Monday its back to cold and snow. It’s a watch and see time. Hopefully we’ll be able to get another week of good riding if the rain doesn’t take it all away.
