Indian River Trail Report – 03/18

Mother Nature is not ready to let go of winter…We had a cold but sunny weekend here-good snowmobiling for those looking to put more miles on the sleds. No change in trail conditions to report either. The groomers were out last night but traffic has been light. Last night we sunk into single-digits for temps so the base stays rock solid. We’re in the high-twenties now and enjoying some sun. Looks like things will change later this afternoon as we’re under a weather advisory. We’re expecting winds to pick up, bringing freezing rain which will change over to snow. Initial accumulations are for 2-4′ through the overnight hours. Lake effect is also forecasted through Thursday, and we will likely stay under 32 all week. Winds are picking up now, so we’ll see what the day brings. Check back in tomorrow for another update on our trail/weather conditions!

Base: 4 inches

Snowfall Past 24 hours: 1 inch

Last Grooming: 3-17-13, Sunday night

Current Trail Conditions: Good

Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 03/18

Are you ready for the snow we are about to get?? The trails are at their best this season and after the projected 15″ of snow coming, I’d say they will only get better!

The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open. The groomers are out working on the the trails and the trails are in very good condition. Remember to watch out for the groomers and deer when you’re out on the trails…..they have the right of way!!

There is some logging being done on sections of trails 122 & 133 so please watch for the signs and be aware.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.
