Indian River Trail Report – 12/12

Yesterday our driver Joe was out and panned (packed) the railroad grade trail! Today he’s working on the wooded trail. I don’t have a base measurement yet but it will come. We’ve got beautiful winter weather continuing; snow during the day and cold temps to freeze in the groomer’s work at night. More light snow is expected today (it’s coming down heavy now and has been for over an hour).

We got between 1 and 2′ of snow yesterday and temps hovered around 15. This weather pattern is expected to continue, which means we’ll be riding during Christmas for the first time in a while! Be sure to check back in tomorrow for the latest on trail conditions– Word has it that the previously-closed Gaylord trail has been reopened thanks to renegotiated lease agreements! Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 12/11

Good news, Trails 1 north & south, 13 north, 8 east & west have all been packed (or panked) down and the groomers will be heading out now with drags. All trails are open, we just haven’t been able to get the groomers to 102, 13 south and 100 due to wet conditions. However, the groomers should be running on all trails by this weekend.

We’ve had perfect conditions to freeze the trails up with some extremely cold conditions over the last week – plus snowfall in our area almost every day. We received another 4 – 6 inches over last night. Weather forecasts through the next week look great with more cold and more snow predicted. Remember to pack your long johns! Riders in the area are reporting pretty good conditions on our trails, taking into consideration that it is still early in the season.

***Also be mindful that a bridge on trail 8, just east of Bergland is out and it is marked. The trail will be rerouted over the dam at the north end of the lake where the trail was a couple years ago.

With varied trail reports coming out from other sources the info can get confusing…just remember – George (at the Hoop) is the Trail Boss, I am the Secretary/Treasurer of Gogebic Area Grooming and as such our groomer drivers report directly to us. We also take reports from riders in the area; between the two I will always give you honest reports every time. These are the only official trail reports from the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce as well as Gogebic Area Grooming.

That’s all for now from Carolyn at the Hoop. I will keep you posted as often as conditions change. For additional information about the Lake Gogebic area we invite you to visit the only official website of the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at www.LakeGogebicArea.com or call us at 1-888-464-3242 (888-GOGEBIC). Looking forward to seeing you all up again soon!
